Changan UNI-T 1.5 Turbo (2023): Throttle Body Cleaning
The throttle body on the 1.5 Turbo (JL473ZQ7) is electronic and controlled by the engine control unit. Clean it if you notice an unstable idle, hesitation during acceleration, or increased fuel consumption. There is no set maintenance schedule, so go by the symptoms and the actual condition of the part.
Part
- 🔩 No consumables are required for cleaning. If replacement is needed, a complete throttle body assembly (check with your supplier)
Step by step
15 steps- Disconnect the negative battery terminal. This prevents the throttle's electric actuator from moving unexpectedly.
- Remove the decorative engine cover (if equipped). It is held by clips or TORX screws.
- Loosen the clamp on the air duct that connects the air filter housing to the throttle body, then remove the duct.
- Disconnect the throttle actuator connector. Press the locking tab and carefully pull the connector off.
- Remove the bolts that secure the throttle body to the intake manifold (usually 3-4 bolts). Note how the gasket is positioned.
- Take out the throttle body and check how dirty it is. Look for an oily film and carbon deposits on the throttle plate and the bore walls.
- Treat the inside surface with throttle body cleaner. Spray it onto a lint-free rag and carefully wipe the throttle plate and the bore. Do NOT use stiff brushes or abrasive materials, because the coating is easily damaged.
- If it is heavily soiled, repeat the cleaning 2-3 times. Let the solvent evaporate (3-5 minutes).
- Inspect the gasket between the throttle body and the manifold. Replace it if it is deformed or torn.
- Install the throttle body. Tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern to 8-12 N·m (6-9 lb-ft). The exact value depends on the manifold material (aluminum or plastic).
- Reconnect the throttle actuator connector, install the air duct, and tighten the clamp.
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Start the engine and let it idle for 3-5 minutes with all accessories off (climate control, headlights, audio system). The engine control unit performs self-adaptation.
- Then turn on the main accessories (climate control, headlights) and let the engine run for another 3-5 minutes. This speeds up the electronics' synchronization with the new throttle position.
- Take a test drive of 10-15 km in mixed driving. Make sure the idle is stable and the throttle pedal response is smooth.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Cleaning a worn throttle body can make the engine run worse. Removing the carbon creates clearances that deposits used to compensate for. If the idle gets worse after cleaning, or the ECU shows fault codes, you will need to replace the throttle body or force an adaptation with a diagnostic scan tool. Adaptation is not mandatory, because the electronics will synchronize on their own within a few days of driving. However, resetting the adaptation with a scan tool speeds up the process.
