Honda Insight (2nd generation): Fog Light Replacement
Fog lights on the 2nd-generation Honda Insight were optional (depending on trim level). The bulb is a standard H11 with a PGJ19-2 base. Replacing the whole light assembly or repairing the wiring requires partially removing the front bumper. Replacing only the bulb does not require bumper removal. You reach it through the access opening in the wheel well liner.

Step by step
7 steps- Turn the steering wheel away from the side you are working on (to the right for the left light, to the left for the right light). Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw holding the triangular protective panel in the lower part of the wheel well (under the front bumper). Bend the panel inward to get access to the back of the fog light.
- If you are replacing only the bulb: disconnect the power connector from the light, turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and pull it out together with the H11 bulb. Install the new bulb WITHOUT touching the glass with your fingers (use gloves or a cloth). Reassemble in reverse order.
- If you are replacing the whole assembly: partially remove the front bumper. Open the hood. Remove the screws holding the upper bumper trim (between the headlights) and take it off, releasing the clips. Remove one screw in each front part of the wheel wells (facing forward). Under the car, remove 4-6 screws and pop out the plastic clips that secure the lower part of the bumper to the engine undercover and the frame rails. Turn the turn signal sockets and pull them out of the bumper.
- Carefully pull the lower corners of the bumper toward you, releasing the tabs from the fenders (do not pull hard, the plastic is brittle). Move the bumper forward 15-20 cm (6-8 in), placing a soft cloth or cardboard underneath so you do not scratch the hood. You do not need to remove the bumper completely. It is enough to free up access to the fog light mounting from the inside.
- From inside the bumper, remove the 2-3 screws or nuts holding the light (depending on model year: 2010-2011 models usually have screws, while 2012-2014 models may have 10 mm nuts). Disconnect the power connector. Take the light out of the bumper toward the outside.
- Install the new light in reverse order: insert it into its seat, connect the connector and secure it with the fasteners. Put the bumper back in place: align the tabs along the edges, insert the turn signals, and secure the screws and clips at the bottom, in the wheel wells and at the top.
- After installation, check that the fog lights work. If necessary, adjust the beam angle with the screw on the back of the light (usually not required if the light is the original part).
Common mistakes and warnings
- If you touch a halogen H11 bulb with bare fingers, oily marks stay on the glass. The bulb overheats locally and fails quickly. If you touched it, wipe the glass with rubbing alcohol. Replace bulbs in pairs. If one has burned out, the other will soon follow, and the brightness will differ between the two. LED bulbs are acceptable in fog lights (unlike in headlights), but make sure they are compatible with the lighting control system.
