Nissan Fuga (Y50): Door Central Locking Actuator Replacement

On the Y50, the central locking actuator is located in the door latch housing, inside the door at the rear edge. The exact step-by-step procedure for this model is not documented in publicly available sources, so what follows is the general principle for this type of door. Fastener torque values and screw locations may differ, so note what you remove and where it came from as you work.

Difficulty: Medium Time: 1.5-3 hours Steps: 12 Tools: Phillips and flat screwdriver set, Torx set and 7-10 mm sockets, plastic trim removal tools, tweezers or a thin screwdriver, multimeter, electrical tape, masking tape

Part

  • 🔩 Door latch assembly with central locking actuator (for the correct door: left or right, front or rear). On the Y50, the actuator is usually built into the latch assembly. If only the motor has failed, it is often easier and more reliable to replace the whole latch

Step by step

12 steps
  1. First, make sure the actuator is actually the faulty part. Command the lock with the switch and with the key. If the lock does not click at all, check the door lock fuse and use a multimeter to check for power at the actuator connector while pressing the switch. If power is present but the actuator does nothing, replace the actuator. If there is no power, look for the cause in the wiring or the control unit.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait 5-10 minutes. The doors contain side airbags, so do not touch the airbag wiring or any connectors with yellow sheathing. This safety measure is mandatory.
  3. Lower the window about one third of the way to make it easier to work with the top edge of the door panel. Open the door fully.
  4. Remove the door panel. Find and remove all visible screws: in the armrest handle, in the recess of the inner door handle, and around the perimeter. Use a plastic trim tool to pry the clips loose around the perimeter, starting at the bottom. Then lift the panel up and off the top edge.
  5. Disconnect the connectors for the power window switch, lock switch, mirror controls and speaker. Disconnect the rod or cable of the inner door handle, noting how it was attached. Set the panel aside.
  6. Carefully peel back or detach the plastic vapor barrier to get to the latch. Keep it, since it must be put back in place with a proper seal.
  7. Find the latch on the rear edge of the door. Take photos of the position of the rods: from the outer handle, from the inner handle, and from the key cylinder (if this door has one). Disconnect the rods from the latch by releasing the retaining clips.
  8. Disconnect the actuator's electrical connector from the latch. Remove the latch mounting screws (usually Torx or a socket-type drive) on the door edge. After that, the latch together with the actuator can be taken out through the access opening inside the door.
  9. Compare the new latch with the old one for rod positions, connectors and mounting holes. Make sure it is the correct part for the correct side and door.
  10. Install the new latch in reverse order: insert it, secure it with the screws (tighten moderately, without excessive force, and use the manufacturer's specified torque), then connect the rods and the connector.
  11. Before installing the door panel, reconnect the battery terminal, close the door, and test the actuator with the central locking switch, the outer and inner handles, and the key. Check that the door latches securely and opens with both handles.
  12. Put the vapor barrier back in place, connect the door panel connectors, and secure the panel with the clips and screws. Check the operation of the power window and switches.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • The door contains side airbags, so the battery terminal must be disconnected beforehand and the airbag wiring must not be touched. If the SRS indicators do not come on or do not go off after the replacement, do not drive the car with this fault and take it to a repair shop for diagnosis. The door latch affects safety, so if you lack experience working with door panels and rods, it is better to leave the replacement to a professional.
