IM Motors LS7 (1st generation): Dynamic Calibration of the 360° Surround-View Cameras
Dynamic calibration adjusts the image from the four cameras (front, rear, and two side cameras in the mirrors) while you drive along lane markings. The surround-view module finds the lane lines on its own and calculates the camera positions. The exact procedure for this model is not documented in publicly available service materials. Below is the general principle. Check the menu items and the speed range against the manufacturer's service information.
Part
- 🔩 Not required. Calibration is needed after replacing a camera, windshield, bumper, mirror, door or tailgate, after suspension repair or a wheel alignment, and when the image looks "floating" or "broken" at the stitching seams
Step by step
9 steps- Prepare the vehicle. Wipe the lenses of all four cameras: front, rear, and the two side modules in the mirrors. They must be free of dirt, ice and water droplets. Fold the mirrors out to the driving position.
- Check the condition of the vehicle. Tire pressure should be normal, and all tires should be the same size. The trunk and cabin should not be overloaded. All doors, the tailgate and the mirrors must be closed and have no play. The high-voltage battery should preferably be above 30-40%, and the 12 V battery must be in good condition. A voltage drop often causes calibration to fail.
- If calibration is needed after body or suspension repair, first get a wheel alignment and make sure the steering wheel is centered when driving straight. Otherwise the cameras will be calibrated to incorrect geometry.
- Choose a location. You need a level, dry road without sharp curves or slopes. The lane markings should be clear on both sides of the lane. A straight stretch with clearly visible side lines works best. Drive in the daytime in even lighting, without strong glare or shadows from trees and buildings. Rain, snow, a dirty road, and markings that are worn or covered with snow will disrupt calibration.
- Start the calibration. First check the center screen menu, in the driver assistance or camera settings section, for a camera calibration option. If there isn't one, connect a diagnostic scan tool and start the dynamic calibration function in the surround-view system module. Press "Ready/Accept" when the scan tool shows that the conditions are met.
- Drive straight at a steady speed. Dynamic calibration usually requires holding a speed of about 20-40 km/h, without braking hard or changing lanes, until a completion message appears on the screen or in the scan tool. Check the exact speed limits and distance for the LS7 against the manufacturer's service information. A few minutes of driving is usually enough.
- If the process is interrupted, for example by a turn, poor markings or braking, repeat the run on the same straight stretch. Do not interrupt the calibration by changing the drive mode or shifting gears.
- When it finishes, check the result. Stop in an area with markings or next to a curb, switch on the 360° view, and check that the lines at the seams between adjacent cameras meet without a break or offset, and that the vehicle's dimensions on the screen match reality.
- If the image is still distorted, check whether a camera has shifted mechanically (after a bump, or after a mirror or bumper replacement). In that case dynamic calibration won't help. You need a static calibration using special targets or mats, which requires shop equipment.
Common mistakes and warnings
- 360° cameras help with parking, but they don't replace mirrors and awareness of your surroundings. Until calibration is complete, or if the image is incorrect, don't rely on it or on related parking and driver assistance functions. After work involving the high-voltage system, glass, or bumpers with built-in sensors and cameras, contact a repair shop if you have any doubts. Static calibration and writing parameters to the module may require dealer equipment.
