IM Motors LS7 (1st generation): Static 360° Surround-View Camera Calibration
The LS7 surround-view cameras (front, rear and two side cameras in the mirrors) combine into a single top-down image. Static calibration sets the position of each camera relative to the body using markers on mats laid out around the vehicle. The exact step-by-step procedure and mat layout dimensions for this model are not documented in public service materials, so the general principle is given below. Verify distances, mat layout and menu order against the manufacturer's service procedure and the instructions for your calibration kit.
Parts
4- 🔩 Not required. Calibration is performed after replacing a camera, a mirror with a camera, a bumper, or a door with a camera
- 🔩 after removing or adjusting the suspension
- 🔩 after changing body geometry or ride height
- 🔩 or when the top-down view is distorted
Step by step
12 steps- Prepare the site: a perfectly level, horizontal surface with no slope, no glare and no deep shadows, with even lighting. There must be no bumps, seams or puddles under the vehicle and mats. The layout area must be free of foreign objects.
- Prepare the vehicle: tires inflated to the specified pressure, with equal wear and size, and no extra load in the trunk or cabin. Fuel is not relevant (electric vehicle), but the traction battery charge must be sufficient and the 12 V voltage must be stable. Connect 12 V support if the calibration will take a long time.
- Check the condition of the cameras and mirrors: wipe dirt and film off the lenses of all four cameras, and make sure there are no cracks, internal moisture or shifted mounts. The side mirrors must be in the operating (unfolded) position. The doors, trunk and any camera-equipped cover must be fully closed and properly aligned.
- Check the suspension geometry: if control arms, shock absorbers or springs were replaced recently, or a wheel alignment was done, perform the calibration only after that work is complete. If the vehicle has air suspension, set it to the standard ride height, not "high" or "low" mode.
- Set the steering wheel exactly straight and the wheels straight ahead. Put the selector in P and apply the parking brake as required by the scan tool.
- Mark out the site: find the vehicle's longitudinal axis (the centers of the front and rear bumpers, and the center of the emblem) and mark it with tape. Place the mats around the vehicle symmetrically about this axis, at the distances given in the kit's layout diagram. Each camera must "see" its entire mat, without skew or wrinkles.
- Check the layout with a tape measure or distance meter: the diagonals and the distances from the wheel arches and bumper corners to the markers must match on the left and right sides. The tolerance is usually tight (a few millimeters); take the exact value from the kit's diagram. The mats must lie flat and must not shift or curl.
- Connect the scan tool to the diagnostic connector and switch the ignition on (Ready mode is not required unless the scan tool asks for it). Select make IM, model LS7, the 360° camera system (AVM), and the camera calibration function. Enter the parameters the software requests.
- Start the calibration and wait for it to finish for each camera. Do not open the doors, move the vehicle, or walk in the cameras' field of view during the process.
- Check the result: the scan tool should report a successful calibration with no error codes. If a specific camera reports an error, check the lens for cleanliness, the mat position and the lighting, and repeat.
- Check the final image: the top-down view on the screen should be seamless, the stitching lines between cameras should be even, parking lines on the ground should continue without breaks or offsets, and the bumper outlines should match the real vehicle. Then take a short test drive at low speed and check the image in a turn.
- Clear any fault codes left over from disassembly (camera, communication, voltage) and make sure no new ones appear.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Calibration is required and affects the parking assist systems: if it is done incorrectly, the image and the dynamic trajectory lines will be distorted, which can lead to a wrong estimate of the distance to obstacles. If you do not have a calibration kit for the LS7 and a scan tool that supports this model, go to a repair shop with the proper equipment, because the procedure cannot be done without the software part. Do not try to "fix" the image by adjusting the cameras by hand. If parts with cameras were removed during the work, remember that electrical connectors must be disconnected only with the ignition off, and no actions on the high-voltage system are required for this task.
