Lada 2107 (Gen I): Front Door Removal
Removing the front door on the VAZ 2107 (Lada Riva) is necessary for replacing hinges, repairing inner panels, painting, or adjusting the door opening alignment. The procedure is performed from the body pillar side by removing the hinge mounting screws after taking out the door check (door stop) pin.
Part
- 🔩 None required (if removing for repair or adjustment)
Step by step
6 steps- Open the door fully and secure it in the open position with a wooden block under the bottom edge, or have a helper hold it.
- If you are removing the door for repair (not replacement), trace the outlines of the hinges on the body pillar with a marker. This makes reinstallation easier and preserves the alignment.
- Drive out the door check pin: place a hammer under the protruding part of the pin and tap it from above to knock it out of the hinge, then pull it out with pliers.
- Loosen the hinge mounting screws on the body pillar with an impact screwdriver. Seat the screwdriver tip in the screw slot and turn the screws with sharp hammer blows on the screwdriver handle (each hinge is held by two screws). If the screws are rusted and won't budge, first apply penetrating oil and let it soak for 10-15 minutes.
- While supporting the door (or after placing a support under it), fully remove the mounting screws from both hinges with a 10 mm wrench.
- Lift the door off the body and move it to a flat surface, laying down cardboard or cloth to avoid damaging the paint.
Common mistakes and warnings
- If the hinge screws won't come out even with an impact screwdriver, you can drill off the screw heads with a 6-8 mm drill bit, then remove the remaining screw shank with needle-nose pliers or regular pliers. The door is heavy (about 15-20 kg), so work with a helper or a secure support. Dropping the door can damage the paint and deform the panel.
