Audi Q2 (I generation): Cabin Air Filter Replacement

The cabin air filter on the Audi Q2 is located in the front passenger footwell, behind the glove box. The job requires no tools and takes 10-15 minutes. Replacement interval: every 15,000-20,000 km (9,000-12,500 miles) or once a year.

Step by step

10 steps
  1. Open the front passenger door and lower the glove box all the way down.
  2. Unhook the glove box limit strap on the right side so the glove box can swing fully open.
  3. Behind the glove box, find the plastic filter housing cover. It is held by three lower clips (release them by hand, pushing down) and upper clips.
  4. Press the lower clips by hand, then carefully pull the cover toward you from right to left, releasing the upper tabs at the same time (use a plastic trim tool if needed).
  5. Remove the cover and pull out the old filter. Note the installation direction (the arrow on the edge of the filter shows the airflow direction).
  6. Wipe the housing with a dry cloth to remove dust and debris.
  7. Install the new filter strictly in the direction of the arrow (usually the arrow points down or toward the center of the vehicle).
  8. Snap the filter housing cover back into place. You should hear a distinct click.
  9. Reattach the glove box limit strap.
  10. Turn the ignition on and run the ventilation system at maximum. Check for unusual noises and normal airflow.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Installing the filter in the wrong orientation reduces filtering efficiency and can let dust into the cabin. Pay attention to the airflow direction arrow during installation.
