Aurus Senat (1st generation): Front Brake Pad Replacement

The Aurus Senat has ventilated disc brakes on all wheels and an electromechanical parking brake. Replace the front pads every 30,000-50,000 km (18,000-31,000 miles), depending on driving style. The procedure requires care and attention because of the vehicle's high weight and powerful brake system.

Difficulty: Medium Time: 1-2 hours Steps: 16 Tools: jack, lug wrench, socket and wrench set, flat-blade screwdriver, caliper piston retraction tool (C-clamp or special wrench), torque wrench, container for draining brake fluid

Part

  • 🔩 Front brake pads for Aurus Senat

Step by step

16 steps
  1. Raise the front of the vehicle with a jack, secure it with jack stands, and remove the wheel.
  2. Draw a small amount of brake fluid out of the reservoir (to prevent overflow when you push the pistons back).
  3. Disconnect the pad wear sensor connector (usually on the inner pad).
  4. Remove the caliper guide bolts (tightening torque for reassembly is 40-50 N·m (30-37 lb-ft); check the exact value in the manufacturer's manual).
  5. Remove the caliper from the disc and hang it from the suspension with wire so its weight does not strain the brake hose.
  6. Take the old pads out of the caliper by hand and inspect the discs for deep scoring (if wear exceeds 2 mm, replace the discs).
  7. Clean the pad seats with a damp rag and remove corrosion from the edges of the disc.
  8. Push the caliper pistons fully back with a C-clamp or a special tool, pressing through an old pad.
  9. Lubricate the caliper guides with a special high-temperature brake grease (if it is a floating caliper).
  10. Install the new pads in the caliper (friction material facing the disc) and connect the wear sensor.
  11. Reinstall the caliper and tighten the guide bolts with a torque wrench to 40-50 N·m (30-37 lb-ft), or to the manual's specification.
  12. Install the wheel and tighten the lug bolts to 130-140 N·m (96-103 lb-ft) (confirm the value for your specific model).
  13. Press the brake pedal firmly several times until the pistons move to their working position and the pads seat against the disc.
  14. Check the brake fluid level in the reservoir and top it up to the MAX mark if needed.
  15. Repeat the procedure for the other front wheel.
  16. Take a test drive at low speed, check braking performance, and make sure there are no unusual noises.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Always replace the pads on both wheels of the front axle at the same time so braking stays even. For the first 200-300 km (125-185 miles), drive gently on the brakes to bed the pads in to the discs, because braking performance is reduced during this period. Do not let grease get on the friction material of the pads or the working surface of the discs. On a premium vehicle with a powerful brake system, consider having an authorized service center do this work, especially if you have no experience with it, because incorrect installation can lead to brake failure.
