Haval F7 (1st Generation): Center Console Removal and Installation
The center console on the Haval F7 is held in place by a combination of screws and plastic snap clips. Removal is needed to access the multimedia system wiring, the automatic transmission shifter or manual shift lever, the climate control unit connectors, or to install accessories. The job is not technically difficult, but it requires care because the clips are brittle and break if handled roughly.
Part
- 🔩 New plastic trim clips may be needed for reassembly (OE clips are ordered by catalog; aftermarket equivalents: TJ Bush TJB1408 or VAG 4L0886373, sold in sets of 10)
Step by step
10 steps- Disconnect the negative battery terminal (to prevent an accidental short circuit while working on electrical components).
- Remove the decorative side trim panels of the center tunnel. Pull the top of each panel toward you, overcoming the resistance of the plastic clips (usually 2-3 clips per side). Use a plastic pry tool so you don't scratch the plastic.
- Remove the cup holders and the ashtray from the center console. Mounting screws may be hidden underneath (check the bottom of the recesses).
- Remove the visible console mounting screws. These are usually 2-4 screws under the cup holders and 2 screws in the lower part of the console near the door sills (under the side trim panels). Use a PH2 Phillips screwdriver or a Torx socket (the size depends on the model year, T20 or T25).
- Carefully pull the upper part of the console (around the automatic transmission selector or shift lever) up and toward you. It is held by several clips. If the resistance is high, check for missed screws.
- Disconnect the wiring connectors for the parking brake button, USB ports, seat heaters, and the multimedia control unit (when removing the upper part of the console). Press the connector locking tabs before disconnecting.
- When removing the automatic transmission selector trim, shift the lever into N (neutral) to free up room to work. On some manual transmissions, you may need to remove the retaining screw of the shift boot from underneath.
- To remove the lower part of the console completely, remove the fasteners securing it to the cabin floor (usually 2-4 bolts through brackets under the floor mat) and to the front seats (if equipped). Move the console rearward, disengaging it from the instrument panel.
- To install, align the console guides with the mating parts on the floor and dashboard, plug in the wiring connectors, and tighten all screws in the reverse order of removal. Check that all buttons and functions work before final assembly.
- Replace any broken clips with new ones. Insert each clip into the trim panel hole until it clicks, then install the panel in place. Snap the side trim panels in with light pressure around the perimeter.
Common mistakes and warnings
- The trim retaining clips are brittle. When removing panels, pull them smoothly without jerking and use plastic pry tools. Before starting, make sure all screws are removed, because forcing the console off will break the mounts. When disconnecting connectors, note their locations (take photos), because incorrect connection can cause safety system errors.
