Haval M6 (2nd Generation): Rear Brake Caliper Replacement
Replacing the rear brake calipers on the 2nd-generation Haval M6 requires disabling the electronic parking brake and careful handling because of the short brake hose and the attached electrical wiring. The procedure includes removing the parking brake motor, retracting the parking brake mechanism, and replacing the caliper, followed by bleeding the brake system.
Part
- 🔩 Rear brake caliper assembly (replace as a pair). You will also need DOT 4 brake fluid (0.5-1 L (0.5-1 qt)), medium-strength threadlocker, and caliper guide pin grease TRW PFG110 or equivalent
Step by step
17 steps- Disable the electronic parking brake: start the engine, press the parking brake release button and, while holding the switch, turn the engine off.
- Raise the rear of the vehicle with a jack and remove the wheel.
- Remove the cap of the brake master cylinder reservoir to relieve pressure.
- Remove the electronic parking brake motor by unscrewing the two bolts with a 5 mm hex key.
- Retract the parking brake mechanism with a Torx T45 wrench, turning it clockwise, to release the caliper piston.
- Remove the caliper mounting bolts: hold the guide pin with a 15 mm wrench and use a 13 mm socket to remove the caliper mounting bolts.
- Unscrew the brake hose mount with a 10 mm wrench (be careful, the bracket is thin and easily deformed).
- Disconnect the brake hose from the caliper. Place a fluid catch container underneath and plug the hose with a rubber stopper or wrap it to prevent leaks and contamination.
- Remove the old caliper together with the electrical connector of the parking brake motor.
- Install the new caliper: connect the motor connector and attach the brake hose (tightening torque 12-15 N·m (9-11 lb-ft); verify the exact value in the service manual).
- Secure the caliper with the bolts through the guide pins: apply medium-strength threadlocker to the bolts and tighten to 25-35 N·m (18-26 lb-ft).
- Reinstall the electronic parking brake motor (two 5 mm bolts).
- Repeat the procedure for the other rear caliper.
- Bleed the brake system with pedal bleeding or a vacuum pump until all air is removed, starting with the wheel farthest from the master cylinder.
- Top up with DOT 4 brake fluid to the MAX level in the master cylinder reservoir and close the cap.
- With the engine running, check the brake pedal feel. The pedal should be firm, with no sinking.
- Activate the electronic parking brake with the switch. Make sure the motors work in sync and hold the vehicle on a slope.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Always replace both rear calipers at the same time so the electronic parking brake operates in sync. The short brake hose and the electrical connector require care during removal, so do not pull the caliper toward you abruptly. Complete bleeding of the brake system is mandatory after replacing the calipers, because driving with air in the circuit is dangerous. If you have no experience working on brake systems and bleeding them, take the vehicle to a repair shop.
