Mazda Mazda2 (DJ): Cabin Air Filter Replacement
On the third-generation Mazda2, the cabin air filter is located behind the glove box. Replacement requires no tools and takes 10-15 minutes. The recommended interval is every 15,000-20,000 km (9,000-12,000 mi) or once a year.
Part
- 🔩 Mazda D651-61-J6X (aftermarket equivalents: Mann CU 2300, Nipparts N1343018, VIC AC404E)
Step by step
9 steps- Open the glove box all the way.
- Squeeze the sides of the glove box inward (or release the retaining tabs on the sides) and lower it until it is fully open. It will swing down farther than its normal open position.
- If there is a damper on the right side (a small plastic rod), squeeze its end and slide it off the pivot pin.
- Behind the lowered glove box you will see the rectangular filter housing cover. Squeeze the plastic latches on the sides and remove the cover.
- Pull the old filter out toward you. Note the direction of the airflow arrow on the filter frame.
- Vacuum the housing to remove dust and leaves (if any).
- Insert the new filter with the arrow pointing in the same direction (usually the arrow points down or toward the cabin).
- Snap the housing cover back into place.
- Raise the glove box and reinstall the retaining tabs and the damper.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Observe the airflow direction when installing the filter. Incorrect orientation reduces filtration efficiency and may cause whistling in the air ducts. If the filter is heavily soiled or smells musty, treat the housing with an A/C antibacterial cleaner before installing the new filter.
