KGM Korando (4th generation): OBD-II Diagnostics

OBD-II (On-Board Diagnostics) is the vehicle's standard self-diagnostic system. Through the 16-pin connector you can read diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), view live data (RPM, temperature, fuel consumption), and check system readiness for an emissions inspection. The 4th-generation KGM Korando (2019 and newer) supports the OBD-II/EOBD protocols.

Difficulty: Easy Time: 5-10 minutes Steps: 7 Tools: OBD-II adapter (ELM327 Bluetooth/Wi-Fi or a professional scan tool), smartphone/tablet/laptop with a diagnostic app

Step by step

7 steps
  1. Locate the OBD-II diagnostic port. It is inside the cabin above the pedals on the driver's side, with the socket facing down. It may be covered by a cap (remove it by hand).
  2. Plug the ELM327 adapter (or professional scan tool) into the port until it clicks. Turn the ignition on (you don't need to start the engine; the ON position is enough to read codes).
  3. On your smartphone/tablet, turn on Bluetooth or Wi-Fi and connect to the adapter (the default PIN is 1234 or 0000). Apps that work with ELM327 include Torque Pro, Car Scanner ELM OBD2 and OBD Auto Doctor (for iOS, EOBD Facile).
  4. Launch the app and wait for it to establish a connection with the vehicle (usually 5-10 seconds). Select "Read Fault Codes" / "Check DTC".
  5. The app will display trouble codes in the format P0XXX (powertrain: engine and transmission), C0XXX (chassis: suspension, brakes), B0XXX (body systems), U0XXX (network: communication between modules). Write down the codes and their descriptions.
  6. To view live data, select "Dashboard" / "Real-time data" in the menu. Available parameters include RPM, coolant temperature, engine load, throttle position, boost pressure (for the 1.5T G15TF turbo engine), oxygen sensor, and fuel consumption.
  7. After fixing the problem, clear the codes using "Clear Codes". Drive 50-100 km (31-62 miles) to complete a full self-diagnostic cycle. If the problem is fixed, the code will not return and the Check Engine light will stay off.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • A trouble code points to a symptom, not a specific part. For example, P0420 (catalyst system efficiency below threshold) can be caused by a faulty oxygen sensor, a failed catalytic converter, or an air leak in the exhaust. For accurate diagnosis of complex faults (especially the ABS, airbag and transmission systems), contact an official KGM dealer. They have access to extended protocols and adaptations that are not visible through standard OBD-II.
