Step by step

6 steps
  1. Apply the parking brake and put the shift lever in neutral.
  2. Using a plastic trim tool, pry up the decorative frame of the leather boot at the base of the knob and lift it upward.
  3. Pull the boot up along the shaft to expose the rubber ring between the knob and the shaft.
  4. Hold the knob with both hands and rock it left and right while pulling upward. The knob will come off together with the rubber ring.
  5. Push the new knob onto the shaft until it stops (some force may be needed) and make sure the rubber ring sits tightly.
  6. Put the leather boot back in place and snap the frame into the retaining clips.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Do not twist the knob during removal. Use only a rocking motion and an upward pull. Twisting force can damage the internal parts of the lever or break the plastic retainers.
