Nissan Terrano (D10): Removing and Installing the 12 V Power Outlet (Cigarette Lighter Socket)
The Terrano D10 is built on the Renault Duster platform, and the 12 V outlet is installed in the center console panel. The exact procedure for this model is not documented in public service materials. Below is the general sequence for this type of design: remove the trim panel, disconnect the connector, and take the outlet out of its mounting location. Retaining clips may differ between trim levels.
Parts
2- 🔩 12 V power outlet (cigarette lighter socket) assembly with wiring connector
- 🔩 the metal socket sleeve and the illumination ring are also available separately. The exact OE part number for this model is not confirmed in public sources, so it is not listed here

Step by step
9 steps- Turn off the engine and remove the key. Disconnect the negative battery terminal with a 10 mm socket and wait 5-10 minutes. This is for safety, since power wiring and the airbag control unit are nearby.
- First, check the 12 V outlet fuse in the interior fuse box. If it has blown, you may not need to replace the outlet. The usual cause of a blown fuse is a faulty charger or a short circuit inside the socket. Look up the fuse position number on the fuse box cover or in the owner's manual.
- If the fuse is intact, measure the voltage at the outlet with the ignition on. It should be about 12 V between the center contact and the housing. If there is no power, look for a break in the wiring or in the connector. If power is present but devices do not work, replace the outlet itself.
- Remove the trim panel around the outlet. On the Terrano this is usually the center console trim near the gear shift lever. Pry it up with trim tools around the edge, starting at a corner. There may be 1-2 screws under the trim, so do not pull the panel with force until you have checked for them.
- Disconnect the wiring connector from the back of the outlet. Press the connector's locking tab and pull it toward you by the connector body, not by the wires.
- Remove the outlet from the panel. In most designs it is held by spring tabs or a plastic retaining ring nut. Squeeze the tabs from the sides and push the outlet out from the inside. If there is a ring nut, unscrew it counterclockwise.
- If you only need to replace the metal socket sleeve or the illumination, disassemble the outlet. It usually comes apart into the sleeve, a plastic housing, and an illumination bulb.
- Install the new outlet in reverse order. Plug in the connector until it clicks. Before final assembly, reconnect the battery and check the voltage and that the charger works.
- Then reassemble the panel, seating all the clips around the edge, and install the screws if there were any.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not replace the fuse with a higher rating than specified, or you could burn the wiring. Do not insert small metal objects into the outlet while the battery is connected. If the fuse blows again after the replacement, there is a short somewhere in the circuit, and it is best to see an auto electrician. Do not overtighten the battery terminal; tighten it only until there is no play.
