Renault Sandero (2nd generation): Rear Bumper Removal and Installation
The Sandero II rear bumper is held by self-tapping screws and bolts in the wheel wells and under the floor, by two side guides at the fenders, and by plastic clips along the top. The procedure does not depend on the H4M engine. The exact procedure for this model is not fully covered in publicly available service materials, so the general sequence below should be verified as you go. Check the fastener locations on your trim level by inspection.

Step by step
12 steps- Park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine. For easier access to the underside of the bumper, raise the rear of the car on a lift or support it on jack stands. If you don't have a lift, you can do without raising the car and work from underneath with good lighting.
- Open the trunk lid. Inspect the upper edge of the bumper under the rear body panel. Plastic clips or screws are usually located there, and you can see them by folding back the seal and trim.
- Remove the fasteners from underneath: several screws or bolts along the lower edge of the bumper, as well as the screws that connect the bumper to the splash shield or underbody guard, if fitted.
- In each rear wheel well, fold back the wheel arch liner or remove its fasteners (screws and clips). Under it, find 2-3 screws on each side that secure the side of the bumper to the fender.
- If the car has rear parking sensors, disconnect the sensor connector from the harness and release the harness from its retainers. Also disconnect the license plate light wiring if it runs to the bumper, and the rear fog light or reflectors and their wiring, if fitted.
- Check the fasteners near the taillights. On many versions the bumper is secured in these areas by vertical screws or bolts, accessible after removing the taillights or cover plugs.
- Apply masking tape along the edges of the fenders next to the bumper to avoid scratching the paint.
- Have a helper hold the bumper. Carefully pull the side edges away from the fenders horizontally: the bumper should come out of the side guides. Then pull it back and down, releasing the upper clips.
- Set the bumper aside on a soft pad. Inspect the bumper reinforcement beam, the fasteners and the guides, and replace any broken clips as needed.
- Install in reverse order. First insert the side edges into the guides, then snap the top into place. Check that the gaps with the fenders and trunk lid are even, adjust the bumper on the guides until the gaps are uniform, and only then tighten the fasteners.
- Install all screws and bolts. Bumper threaded fasteners are tightened with little force, since they thread into plastic and thin metal. Tighten until snug, without stripping the threads (guideline: about 5-8 N·m (4-6 lb-ft); for the exact value, see the manufacturer's specifications).
- Connect the parking sensor connectors and lighting wiring before final installation, or check operation afterward. Turn on the ignition and check that the parking sensors and license plate light work.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not pull hard on the bumper until you are sure all fasteners have been removed: plastic guides and clips break easily in cold weather, so it is better to work in a warm garage
- Be sure to disconnect the sensor and lighting connectors before moving the bumper away, otherwise you could tear the harness
- If the bumper has parking sensors, transfer them to the new bumper when replacing it, keeping their positions and markings
