Wuling Victory (1st generation): Cabin Air Filter Replacement

The cabin air filter cleans the air that enters the cabin through the heater and air conditioning system. Replace it once a year or every 10,000-15,000 km, and more often in dusty conditions. The exact procedure for this model is not documented in publicly available service materials, so what follows is the general principle for vehicles like this. Determine the filter location on the vehicle itself: it is most often behind the glove box or under a plastic cover in the recess of the cabin air intake near the windshield.

  • vacuum cleaner or brush

Step by step

10 steps
  1. Turn off the engine and switch off the ignition. Park the vehicle on a level surface.
  2. Find the filter cover. First inspect the recess at the base of the windshield on the passenger side: there may be a plastic cover held by screws or clips. If there isn't one, open the glove box, release the travel-limiting stops and remove the glove box. It usually comes out without tools or with a few screws. Above or behind it you will find a rectangular cover with clips.
  3. Remove the housing cover. Remove the fastening screws or release the clips and take off the cover. Do not bend the plastic: it is brittle, especially in cold weather.
  4. Before removing the filter, note how it is positioned and find the airflow direction arrow on its edge or frame.
  5. Pull the filter toward you and carefully slide it out, taking care not to spill debris into the heater housing.
  6. Clean the housing and the seating area of leaves, dust and dirt with a vacuum cleaner or brush. Do not push anything into the blower fan.
  7. Install the new filter. The arrow on it must point the same way as on the old one. This is usually the direction of airflow: downward or from the front edge toward the cabin. The frame must sit flat, without misalignment or gaps.
  8. Close the cover, tighten the screws or snap the clips shut. Tighten fasteners by hand, without force: the plastic can strip.
  9. If you removed the glove box, put it back in place and reconnect the stops.
  10. Turn the ignition on and run the heater blower at medium speed. Check that the airflow is steady and there is no unusual noise or whistling.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Install the filter strictly according to the airflow arrow and do not crush the frame
  • If it is installed crooked, air will bypass the filter, and odor and noise will appear in the cabin
  • If the blower does not push air as strongly after the filter replacement, check whether the air intake grille under the windshield is clogged with leaves
  • If a musty smell accompanies the dirty filter, treat the evaporator with an antibacterial A/C cleaner after replacement
