How to Change the Oil in Your Car
Every driver, even one with little experience, knows that changing the engine oil on schedule is one of the most important parts of vehicle maintenance. If you don't change the oil in time, the engine will eventually fail. Nobody wants to replace the most expensive component of their car. But with the right knowledge from your engine owner's manual, you won't have to.

The most important thing, if you want to change your engine oil on time, is to keep track of the intervals between your car's service visits. Every type of oil has its own service life. Based on that interval, you should drain all of the used oil completely and fill in fresh oil. The grade and type of oil required are usually listed in the vehicle's documentation or in the owner's manual or service manual. Also remember that whenever you change the oil, you should replace the oil filter as well.

Different vehicles have different intervals between full oil changes, so keep that in mind. Diesel-powered vehicles need oil changes more often than gasoline-powered ones, because diesel fuel is considered "dirtier." That is why, in addition to diesel-specific oils, manufacturers also offer a range of additives designed to extend the oil's service life.

Although anyone can change the oil in a car's engine, doing it yourself isn't always the most convenient option. Who wants to find a lift or ramp, crawl under the car, get covered in used oil, and then spend hours scrubbing it off? Today there are plenty of specialized service shops that offer oil change services. Some are open seven days a week, so you don't have to ask for time off work. Another advantage of going to a shop is that they have all the necessary parts and oils on hand, sold at market prices.

Some service centers offer a quick oil change service that takes about half an hour, though it costs a bit more. Remember that with proper operation and maintenance, your car can easily last ten or even twenty years.
