Exeed TXL 1.6 Turbo (SQRF4J16, 2023): Spark Plug Replacement
The Exeed TXL with the SQRF4J16 engine (1.6 Turbo, 186 hp) uses iridium spark plugs. The scheduled replacement interval is every 30,000 km (standard operating conditions) or 60,000 km (iridium plugs under light-duty use). The procedure requires removing the decorative engine cover and the sound insulation panel, as well as removing the ignition coils.
Part
- 🔩 OE F4J163707010 (iridium, set of 4), aftermarket equivalents NGK 94854 (ILKR7J8), Denso IXEH22TT
Step by step
12 steps- Shut off the engine and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Open the hood.
- Remove the plastic decorative engine cover (usually held by clips or screws).
- Unscrew the four plastic bolts of the sound insulation panel (the cover over the cylinder block) and remove the panel.
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil (4 in total, one per cylinder).
- Remove the ignition coil mounting bolts (8 mm socket) and carefully pull the coils out of the spark plug wells.
- Use a 16 mm spark plug socket to remove the old spark plugs. Inspect the electrodes. A normal insulator color is light brown or gray.
- Check the gap on the new spark plugs (it should be 0.7-0.9 mm for this engine). Adjust with a feeler gauge if necessary.
- Thread the new spark plugs in by hand until snug, then tighten with a torque wrench to 20-25 N·m (15-18 lb-ft) (confirm the exact value in the manufacturer's service documentation).
- Apply a thin layer of dielectric grease to the rubber boots of the ignition coils.
- Install the coils back into the wells, tighten the mounting bolts (8-10 N·m (6-7 lb-ft)), and reconnect the electrical connectors.
- Reinstall the sound insulation panel and the decorative engine cover.
- Start the engine and check that the idle is smooth. If misfires occur (Check Engine light), read the trouble codes with a diagnostic scan tool.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Use only iridium spark plugs with specifications matching F4J163707010 or its direct equivalents (NGK 94854, Denso IXEH22TT). Installing plugs with the wrong heat range or gap can cause knock, misfires and damage to the catalytic converter. Do not overtighten, because the threads in the aluminum cylinder head strip easily. If you are replacing the plugs at more than 60,000 km, it is also recommended to check the condition of the ignition coils and the high-voltage boots.
