Exeed TXL (1st generation): Battery Replacement
The battery on the Exeed TXL is located in the engine compartment. Replacing it doesn't require special knowledge, but after the power is disconnected, the clock, settings, auto windows and learned adaptations may reset. Replace the battery with one of the same size, capacity and cold cranking current.
Part
- 🔩 12 V starter battery, reverse or standard terminal layout, matching the factory battery. Capacity is usually around 60-70 Ah with a cold cranking current of about 540-600 A (EN). Choose a replacement with the same dimensions and terminal layout. The exact designation of the factory battery for your trim level and the OE number are not confirmed, so go by the markings on the old battery
Step by step
14 steps- Turn off the engine, remove the key, close all doors and switch off all electrical loads. If the vehicle has keyless entry, move the key fob away from the car (3-5 meters). Wait 5-10 minutes for the control modules to go to sleep.
- Open the hood and secure it with the prop rod. Locate the battery in the engine compartment and remove the plastic cover or shroud, if there is one.
- Take a photo of the connections and wire routing. If you need to preserve the control module memory, connect an external 12 V power source through the cigarette lighter socket or a dedicated memory saver device.
- Loosen and remove the negative terminal (black, "–") first. Move the cable aside so it can't accidentally touch the battery post.
- Remove the positive terminal (red, "+") after lifting the protective cap. Make sure the wrench never touches both the positive terminal and the body at the same time.
- Remove the hold-down clamp or battery retainer at the base of the battery. The retainer may be a bracket across the top or a clamp at the base. Don't drop the bolts into the engine compartment.
- Lift the battery out with both hands. It weighs approximately 12-18 kg. Keep it level so the electrolyte doesn't spill. If there is a vent tube nearby, note how it is connected.
- Clean the tray and terminals of corrosion and dirt, and wipe the tray dry. Inspect it for corrosion.
- Install the new battery in the same position and check the polarity. Tighten the retainer without overtightening, so the battery doesn't move around but the case isn't deformed.
- Connect the positive terminal first, then the negative. Tighten the terminals firmly but without excessive force: the lead posts are soft, and the tightening torque is usually low. See the manufacturer's specification for the exact value. Coat the terminals with terminal grease.
- Reinstall the cap and the protective cover. Turn the ignition on and check that there are no warnings on the instrument cluster, that the car starts, and whether the charging indicator comes on.
- Start the engine. Check the voltage at the terminals: about 13.5-14.7 V with the engine running.
- Restore the settings: clock, radio, and the auto-up window function (this usually requires fully lowering and raising each window once, holding the switch). If needed, note that Start-Stop may not activate right away and needs some time. The throttle and transmission may relearn over several drives.
- Take the old battery to a recycling drop-off point. Do not throw it out with household trash.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Always disconnect the negative terminal first and reconnect it last, otherwise a short circuit to the body is possible. Keep sparks away from the battery: it gives off explosive gas while charging. On vehicles with a Start-Stop system, the factory battery may be an AGM or EFB type. Replacing it with a conventional lead-acid battery will shorten its service life, and the Start-Stop system may not work correctly. Choose the same type as the original. If warnings appear on the instrument cluster after replacement or Start-Stop doesn't work, take the car to a repair shop for diagnostics and, if necessary, registration of the new battery.
