Hyundai Solaris (Accent) 1.6 G4FC (2013): Battery Replacement
The first-generation Solaris with the 1.6 L G4FC engine uses a lead-acid battery of about 60 Ah. Battery life is 3-5 years or 40,000-60,000 km, depending on conditions (cold climate, frequent short trips and the condition of the alternator all shorten it). Replacement is a basic job that doesn't require a lift.
Part
- 🔩 12V 60 Ah battery, CCA 500A (typical size 55D23L or 60D23L for the first-generation Solaris). OE Hyundai 37104-2H000 or equivalents from Varta, Bosch, Mutlu
Step by step
12 steps- Shut off the engine and turn the ignition off. Open the hood.
- Locate the battery in the engine bay on the left (driver's side). It is a black box with red and black terminals.
- Loosen and remove the BLACK terminal (negative, ground) with a 10 mm wrench or socket. Move it aside.
- Loosen and remove the RED terminal (positive) the same way.
- Unclip or unscrew the two hold-down bolts (12 mm wrench) that secure the battery in its plastic tray. They are usually at the corners or on the sides.
- Lift the old battery straight up (it is heavy, ~15 kg) and carefully remove it from the engine bay.
- Clean the plastic tray and the terminal clamps of corrosion (baking soda and water, or a dedicated contact cleaner).
- Set the new battery in the tray and secure it with the bolts (do not overtighten, or you will damage the plastic).
- Connect the RED terminal clamp to the positive (+) post. Check the markings on the new battery: the red cable goes on the positive post and the black cable on the negative post.
- Connect the BLACK terminal clamp to the negative (-) post. Tighten both clamps firmly, but do not use excessive force.
- Close the hood. Turn the ignition on. The warning lights on the instrument cluster will come on (normal for 3-5 seconds).
- Start the engine and let it run for 1-2 minutes. The alternator will begin charging the battery.
Common mistakes and warnings
- — Take the old battery to a collection point (repair shop, gas station or auto parts store) for recycling. Many regions legally require this. — Do not short the terminals (do not touch both at the same time with a metal tool). — Check the alternator: at 2000 rpm the voltage should be 13.8-14.5 V. If it is lower, the alternator is weak and will need service or replacement.
