Hyundai Solaris (Accent) 1.6 G4FC (2013): Front Strut Replacement

The front struts on the first-generation Solaris (2010-2017) are a single unit, with the strut and spring combined in one assembly. Replacement is needed when you hear knocking from the suspension, the ride loses its smoothness, or the strut leaks oil. On the 1.6 G4FC, the struts use the standard upper and lower mounting points. The procedure is typical for a front-wheel-drive car.

Difficulty: Medium Time: 2-3 hours (both struts) Steps: 10 Tools: Lift or inspection pit, jack, 12/14/17 mm wrenches, screwdriver (if needed), spring compressor (recommended)

Part

  • 🔩 Front strut assembly (spring + strut). OE Hyundai: 54661-1R000 or 54661-1R100 (left/right). The spring can be reused if it is in good condition

Step by step

10 steps
  1. Raise the car on a lift and lift the front left corner. Remove the front left wheel (17 mm wrench).
  2. Unclip the brake hose holder (if it is attached to the strut body with a bracket). Do not damage the hose.
  3. Remove the two bolts that hold the lower strut mount to the steering knuckle (17 mm wrench). Support the strut by hand so it does not fall.
  4. Open the hood. In the engine bay, find the upper strut mount (three bolts under a plastic cover). Remove them with a 12 mm wrench.
  5. Lower the old strut assembly out of the car.
  6. Inspect the spring for cracks and paint flaking. If it is in good shape, reuse it. If the spring is deformed or cracked, replace it with a new one (OE 54661-1R050 or equivalent).
  7. Install the new (or reused) strut in reverse order. Tighten the 12 mm upper bolts to 20-25 N·m (15-18 lb-ft). Tighten the 17 mm lower bolts (to the knuckle) to 80-100 N·m (59-74 lb-ft).
  8. Install the wheel and tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern with a 17 mm wrench to 100-110 N·m (74-81 lb-ft).
  9. Lower the car and repeat the procedure for the right strut.
  10. After installation, drive 500 m gently, then check the tightness of all bolts.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • — Do not disassemble the strut to remove the spring if you have no experience. The spring is compressed under high force and can cause injury. If you need to replace the spring, use a spring compressor or go to a repair shop. — When removing the lower mount, hold the strut. Otherwise it can fall and damage the plastic body trim. — After replacement, have the wheel alignment checked and adjusted. Even if you had no handling problems before, the alignment angles may shift within tolerance. — Original Hyundai parts cost more but are more reliable. Korean aftermarket brands (KYB, Kayaba) work well on the Solaris and are cheaper.
