Step by step
10 steps- Open the hood and locate the battery on the left side of the engine bay (driver's side).
- Disconnect the negative terminal (black, -): loosen the 10 mm nut, remove the terminal, and move the cable aside.
- Disconnect the positive terminal (red, +): loosen the 10 mm nut and remove the terminal.
- Remove the hold-down clamp (usually a plastic bracket on top) by unscrewing the 10 mm bolt.
- Lift the old battery straight up (it weighs about 15-18 kg, so hold it by the side handles).
- Lower the new battery into the tray and orient the terminals correctly (+ on the left, - on the right).
- Install the hold-down clamp and tighten the bolt.
- Connect the positive terminal and tighten the nut (do not overtighten: 5-7 N·m (3.7-5.2 lb-ft)).
- Connect the negative terminal and tighten the nut.
- Close the hood and wait 1-2 minutes for the vehicle's electrical system to stabilize.
Common mistakes and warnings
- After installing the new battery, the infotainment display may ask you to re-enter the audio system PIN code (listed in the owner's documentation). If the car sat for a long time without a battery, reset the electronics: open the driver's door and press the START button 3-4 times without pressing the brake pedal (do not start the engine). Disposal: Take the old battery to a recycling center or an auto parts store. Many stores offer a core credit toward a new battery.
