Step by step

6 steps
  1. Open the hood and locate the black plastic air filter housing on the left side of the engine (driver's side).
  2. Remove the two screws (or release the two plastic clips) on the housing cover.
  3. Lift the cover up, taking care not to disturb the MAF sensor (if it is mounted on the intake duct).
  4. Remove the old filter and wipe the inside of the housing with a dry rag to remove dust.
  5. Install the new filter with the pleats vertical (the same way the old one was installed) and make sure it sits snugly around the entire perimeter.
  6. Close the housing cover and tighten the screws or snap the clips into place.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Do not yank the old filter out when removing the cover, because it may tear from the dust buildup. Make sure the new filter is fully seated in the housing, otherwise dust will get into the engine.
