Step by step
10 steps- Open the glove box and take out all of its contents.
- Look on the left and right sides under the glove box. You will find two plastic clips (they may be folded in or simply snapped into place).
- Press in or unscrew both clips. The glove box should swing down or come off completely.
- Behind the glove box you will see a black plastic box (the filter housing) with white or black side clips.
- Press the two side clips and pull the filter cover toward you. It will open upward.
- Pull out the old filter (rectangular, pleated). Wipe the housing with a dry rag or vacuum it.
- Make sure there is no debris, leaves or insects in the housing.
- Install the new filter with the pleats facing UP (this is important for proper airflow) and push it into the housing until it clicks.
- Close the filter cover until both clips click into place.
- Reinstall the glove box and snap it into place.
Common mistakes and warnings
- If a lot of dust or leaves fall out when you open the filter housing, blow out the housing with compressed air before installing the new filter. A dirty housing will reduce the benefit of a fresh filter. Selection guidance: The OE number 87139-02090 is the most reliable choice. The Mann and Filtron equivalents are compatible and cheaper. Avoid no-name filters, as they often seal poorly.
