Exeed TXL 1.6 Turbo (2021): Engine Air Filter Replacement
Per the maintenance schedule, the filter is replaced about every 10,000 km (6,000 miles) or once a year, whichever comes first. Replace it more often in dusty conditions. The job is done without removing any engine components. The exact procedure for this model is not documented in publicly available service materials, so below is the general principle for air filter housings of turbocharged engines of this type.
Part
- 🔩 Engine air filter (filter element) for Exeed TXL / Chery Tiggo 8 Pro with the 1.6T engine (SQRF4J16). Quality aftermarket filters are the more affordable option, and the OE filter is usually more expensive. Do not confuse it with the cabin filter. That is a separate part with a different part number
Step by step
10 steps- Turn off the engine, wait for the engine bay to cool down, and open the hood.
- Find the black plastic air filter housing in the engine bay. An air duct runs from it to the turbocharger.
- Inspect the housing cover. It is secured either with spring clips or with screws or bolts around the perimeter. Unclip the clips or remove the fasteners.
- If a duct or sensor connector on the cover is in the way, do not disconnect more than necessary. Lift the cover as far as the duct allows. If you have to remove the air duct clamp, loosen it and mark the position of the duct.
- Take out the old filter element, noting its position and which way it faces.
- Wipe the inside of the housing with a dry rag or vacuum it. Do not let debris get toward the intake tract (the clean side, behind the filter).
- Install the new element. The sealing rim must seat evenly in the mounting groove without any misalignment.
- Close the cover and make sure it sits properly all the way around, then snap the clips shut or tighten the fasteners. Do not overtighten screws in plastic: use moderate force, only until the cover sits snug.
- If you removed the duct or clamp, put them back and tighten the clamp. Check that the sensor connectors are plugged in.
- Start the engine and listen at idle. There should be no whistling or sound of air leaking in. Make sure there are no warning lights or errors on the instrument cluster.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not install low-restriction (high-flow) filters, and do not run the engine without a filter. On the 1.6T turbo engine, dust quickly damages the turbine wheel and the cylinders. A loose cover or a poorly seated duct lets in unmetered air, which causes boost-related errors and unstable engine operation.
