Hyundai H1 2.5 CRDi D4CB (2012): Fuel Filter Replacement

The fuel filter on the D4CB diesel engine should be replaced every 60,000 km or 4 years. The procedure requires relieving the pressure in the fuel system and careful work with the fuel lines.

Step by step

12 steps
  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut off the engine, and let it cool for 10-15 minutes.
  2. Open the hood and locate the fuel filter in the engine compartment on the right side near the fuel rail (a cylindrical housing with inlet and outlet lines).
  3. Relieve the pressure in the fuel system: remove the fuel pump fuse (fuse box in the cabin), start the engine, and let it stall on its own.
  4. Place a container under the filter (about 100-200 ml (3.4-6.8 fl oz) of diesel fuel will drain out).
  5. Loosen the clamps on the inlet and outlet fuel hoses with a 10 mm wrench, then carefully pull the hoses off the filter fittings.
  6. Remove the filter mounting bracket with a 12-14 mm wrench (depending on model year, it is either a bolt or a clamp).
  7. Remove the old filter and wipe the mounting area clean.
  8. Install the new filter, paying attention to the flow direction (the arrow on the housing points toward the engine).
  9. Push the hoses onto the fittings all the way and tighten the clamps to 3-5 N·m (2.2-3.7 lb-ft).
  10. Reinstall the pump fuse and turn the ignition on for 5-10 seconds (without starting the engine) so the pump fills the system.
  11. Repeat the priming 2-3 times, then start the engine. The engine may run unevenly for the first few seconds until the air is purged.
  12. Check the connections for leaks.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Wear gloves, since diesel fuel irritates the skin. Do not smoke near the vehicle. If you use poor-quality fuel, shorten the replacement interval to 40,000-50,000 km. A clogged filter can damage the injectors and the high-pressure fuel pump.
