SsangYong Kyron 2.0 XDi (2010): Fuel Filter Replacement
The fuel filter on the 2.0 XDi (D20DT) diesel should be replaced every 30-40 thousand km or every 2 years. It is located under the vehicle on the right side of the fuel tank, behind the rear right wheel. The procedure requires care: the diesel fuel is under pressure and spills are possible.
Part
- 🔩 fuel filter (OE 2247534000 or equivalents Mann WK 31/6, Bosch F 026 402 046, Filtron PP 852/3)

Step by step
34 steps- Park the vehicle on a level surface, set the parking brake, shut off the engine and let it cool for 15-20 minutes.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure: open the fuse box cover inside the cabin (to the left of the steering wheel), remove the fuel pump fuse (F27, 20A), start the engine and let it stall on its own.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal (10 mm wrench).
- Raise the rear right side of the vehicle with a jack and support it on a jack stand, or drive it onto a service pit.
- Remove the rear right wheel (19 mm wrench or a lug wrench).
- Locate the fuel filter: a cylindrical housing under the vehicle behind the rear right fender, secured to the frame rail with a metal clamp.
- Place a drain pan under the filter. When the hoses are disconnected, 200-500 mL (0.2-0.5 L (0.2-0.5 qt)) of diesel will drain out.
- Put on gloves and safety glasses.
- Loosen the clamps that secure the filter to the bracket (10 mm or 12 mm wrench, depending on the version).
- Disconnect the water-in-fuel sensor: press the plastic locking tab on the connector and pull it toward you.
- Loosen the fuel hose clamps at the filter inlet and outlet (10 mm wrench or a flat-head screwdriver for worm-drive clamps).
- Remove the inlet hose (from the tank side): pull it off carefully while holding the filter fitting. Fuel will drain out.
- Quickly plug the hose end with a clean rag or a plug to minimize spillage and keep dirt out.
- Remove the outlet hose (to the high-pressure pump) in the same careful way, holding the filter in place.
- Remove the old filter from the bracket.
- Inspect the sealing rings on the filter fittings. If the rubber is cracked or hardened, replace the rings (they come with some filters).
- Install the new filter in the bracket, observing the flow direction: the housing is marked INLET (inlet from the tank) and OUTLET (outlet to the high-pressure pump).
- Push the inlet hose onto the INLET fitting of the new filter as far as it will go.
- Tighten the inlet hose clamp (torque 3-5 N·m (2.2-3.7 lb-ft), do not overtighten because the fitting is plastic).
- Push the outlet hose onto the OUTLET fitting as far as it will go.
- Tighten the outlet hose clamp (torque 3-5 N·m (2.2-3.7 lb-ft)).
- Reconnect the water-in-fuel sensor connector and press it in until it clicks.
- Tighten the clamps that secure the filter to the bracket (do not overtighten because the housing is plastic).
- Prime the new filter with fuel by hand. There is a rubber hand primer bulb on the filter housing. Pump it 20-30 times until you feel resistance (the filter is full).
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Reinstall the fuel pump fuse (F27).
- Turn the ignition key to the ON position (without starting the engine) for 10-15 seconds. The fuel pump will prime the system and fill the filter.
- Repeat the ON-OFF cycle 3-4 times, pausing 5 seconds between cycles.
- Inspect the filter connections for fuel leaks. Wipe them with a rag and check for wet spots.
- Start the engine. For the first 5-10 seconds it may run unevenly (air is being purged from the system), then it will stabilize.
- Let the engine idle for 2-3 minutes, then check the filter for leaks again.
- Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug bolts in a crisscross pattern (torque 100-120 N·m (74-89 lb-ft)).
- Lower the vehicle off the jack.
- Take a short test drive of 5-10 km and check for proper power and the absence of jerking.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Diesel fuel is flammable. Work away from open flames and sparks. Do not smoke during the procedure. If the starter cranks for a long time and the engine does not start (more than 15 seconds continuously), stop for 1-2 minutes to let the starter cool, then repeat the ON-OFF priming cycle. If the engine has not started after 4-5 attempts, there may be air in the high-pressure line and the high-pressure pump will need to be bled (it is best to take the vehicle to a repair shop with diagnostic equipment).
