SsangYong Kyron 2.0 XDi (2010): Low Beam Bulb Replacement

On the first-generation SsangYong Kyron (2005-2014), the low beams use an H7 base. The bulb is replaced from the engine bay without removing the headlight or bumper. The procedure is the same for the left and right headlights.

Difficulty: Easy Time: 15-20 minutes Steps: 13 Tools: None required (thin gloves optional to keep the bulb glass clean)

Part

  • 🔩 H7 12V 55W bulb (OE 1808621001 or equivalents: Philips 12972, Osram 64210, Bosch 1987301012). You need 2 pieces, one for each headlight

Step by step

13 steps
  1. Shut off the engine, turn off the ignition and the lights. Open the hood.
  2. Find the round rubber dust cover behind the headlight assembly. It is about 10 cm (4 in) in diameter, with tabs around the edge.
  3. Pull the dust cover toward you to remove it from its seat on the headlight housing (pull on the center part or on one of the tabs).
  4. Inside, you will see the bulb socket with wires. Disconnect the power connector by pulling it straight toward you (there is usually no locking tab, and the connector is held by friction).
  5. Press the spring retaining clip (metal bracket) and swing it aside or upward to release the bulb.
  6. Remove the old H7 bulb from the reflector by pulling it straight toward you.
  7. Hold the new H7 bulb by its base (do not touch the glass with your fingers, because skin oil leaves marks that cause clouding when heated). If you touched the glass, wipe it with rubbing alcohol.
  8. Insert the new bulb into the reflector all the way. The tabs on the base must line up with the slots.
  9. Return the spring retaining clip to its original position to lock the bulb in place.
  10. Connect the power connector to the bulb base. Push it in until it clicks or stops firmly.
  11. Reinstall the rubber dust cover on the headlight housing, tucking the edges into the groove all the way around.
  12. Repeat the procedure for the other headlight (it is recommended to replace bulbs in pairs for matching brightness and color temperature).
  13. Turn on the ignition and the low beams, then check that both bulbs work.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Do not install bulbs rated above 55W, because overheating will melt the reflector and the connector. High-output halogen bulbs (+30%, +50%) are acceptable as long as the power rating stays at 55W. LED H7 replacements are generally not legal for headlights that were designed for halogen bulbs, so use only bulbs certified for your headlight and approved in your area.
