Step by step

9 steps
  1. Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield to the upright position until it locks. Start on the driver's side.
  2. Turn the blade perpendicular to the arm to get access to the plastic retaining clip.
  3. Press the plastic release tab on the side of the blade and at the same time pull the blade down along the arm. It will come off the hook.
  4. Remove the old blade completely, holding the arm with your hand. Do not let the metal arm snap back against the glass.
  5. Take the new blade and insert the arm's hook into the blade's mounting slot until the lock clicks.
  6. Check that the blade is secure. Give it a light tug to try to pull it off the arm. It should not come off.
  7. Lower the arm back onto the glass with a smooth motion.
  8. Repeat steps 1-7 for the passenger-side blade.
  9. Turn the wipers on at low speed and check for skipping, squeaking or chattering.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Do not leave a metal arm without a blade standing in the upright position. If it falls, it can crack the windshield. Always hold the arm with your hand when removing and installing the blades. If the new blades leave streaks, wipe the rubber edges with a clean cloth and isopropyl alcohol, and degrease the glass.
