Jaguar E-Pace (1st generation): Battery Replacement
The E-Pace is equipped with a Stop-Start system and regenerative braking energy recovery, so it requires an AGM battery only. Installing a standard lead-acid battery is not acceptable. The procedure is simple, but you will need to remove the plastic cover and the strut tower brace. Reprogramming (registering) the battery management system is recommended but not critical — the system adapts on its own over several charge cycles.
Part
- 🔩 AGM battery 12V 80Ah 800A (H7 or Type 110 size) — OE Varta AGM for Jaguar Land Rover or equivalents such as Yuasa YBX9096 (70Ah 760A), Bosch S5 A08 (70Ah 760A)

Step by step
12 steps- Apply the parking brake, turn off the engine, and remove the key from the ignition. Turn off all electrical consumers. Work in a well-ventilated area.
- Open the hood and secure it with the prop rod. Remove the plastic cover of the battery compartment (clips around the perimeter).
- Remove the 4 bolts (13 mm) that secure the strut tower brace above the battery. Remove the brace and set it aside.
- Using a 10 mm wrench, loosen the nut on the negative terminal (black cable or marked with a minus sign). Remove the cable and move it aside so that it cannot touch the terminal.
- Using a 10 mm wrench, loosen the nut on the positive terminal (red cable or marked with a plus sign). Remove the cable.
- Remove the battery hold-down bracket (10 mm or 13 mm bolts, depending on the version). Lift the old battery straight up and out.
- Wipe the battery tray and the terminals with a dry rag. Check the contacts for corrosion.
- Install the new AGM battery, aligning the positive terminal with the red cable. Secure the bracket.
- Fit anti-corrosion washers on the terminals (if included), and coat them with a thin layer of anti-corrosion grease.
- Connect the positive cable and tighten the 10 mm nut. Then connect the negative cable and tighten the nut. Terminal tightening torque: 5-8 N·m (44-71 lb-in) (do not overtighten).
- Install the strut tower brace and tighten the 4 bolts (13 mm) in a crisscross pattern. Snap the plastic cover back into place.
- Start the vehicle and check that the Start-Stop system works (it may not activate right away — several drives are needed for calibration).
Common mistakes and warnings
- Using a conventional lead-acid battery instead of an AGM battery will cause the battery to fail quickly and the Start-Stop system to work incorrectly. Registering the new battery with an OBD-II diagnostic scan tool is recommended for immediate activation of all functions, but it is not mandatory — the battery management module adapts to the new battery on its own over 50-100 km of driving. If you replace the battery in cold weather, up to 30 minutes of engine running may be needed after starting for the initial charge.
