Suzuki Jimny 1.3 M13A (2011): Spark Plug Replacement
Spark plugs on the M13A engine should be replaced every 15,000-30,000 km. The plugs are accessed after removing the individual ignition coils. The procedure is simple and requires only a basic set of tools.
Part
- 🔩 OE — NGK BKR6E-11 or Denso K20PRU-11 (nickel). Iridium — NGK IFR6J11. Gap 1.1 mm. 4 pieces per engine

Step by step
12 steps- Shut off the engine and let it cool for at least 30 minutes.
- Open the hood and remove the plastic decorative engine cover (if installed).
- Disconnect the connectors from the four individual ignition coils (press the locking tab and pull).
- Remove the one 10 mm mounting bolt from each coil.
- Carefully pull the coils straight up out of the spark plug wells (do not pull on the wires; pull on the coil body).
- Using the 16 mm spark plug socket with an extension, unscrew the old plugs counterclockwise. Inspect the electrodes and insulator, since the condition of the plug shows how that cylinder is running.
- Check the gap on the new plugs with a feeler gauge. It should be 1.1 mm. If adjustment is needed, carefully bend the side electrode.
- Apply a thin layer of high-temperature copper anti-seize grease to the threads of the new plugs (not to the electrodes).
- Thread the new plugs in by hand until snug, then tighten with the spark plug socket to 20-25 N·m (15-18 lb-ft). If you don't have a torque wrench, tighten an additional quarter turn after the plug seats.
- Install the ignition coils into the spark plug wells until they click, and secure them with the 10 mm bolts.
- Reconnect the coil connectors and install the decorative cover.
- Start the engine and check that the idle is stable.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not exceed the tightening torque. The aluminum cylinder head is sensitive to overtightening, and you can strip the threads. Replace the plugs one at a time so you don't mix up the coils. Do not use plugs with the wrong heat range, as this will cause knocking or overheating.
