Suzuki Jimny 1.5 K15B (2026): Spark Plug Replacement
On the K15B, spark plugs should be replaced every 30,000-45,000 km, depending on driving conditions. The plugs are accessible once you remove the individual ignition coils, which are secured to the valve cover with four bolts. The procedure does not require any specialized equipment.
Part
- 🔩 NGK IKR6G11 (Suzuki OE number 09482-00603), alternative: NGK DCPR6ERX-11P (Premium RX iridium). Set of 4 spark plugs

Step by step
13 steps- Shut off the engine and let it cool for at least 30 minutes to avoid burns.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal (10 mm wrench).
- Remove the four bolts (10 mm socket) that secure the ignition coils to the valve cover.
- Disconnect the electrical connector from each ignition coil by gently pulling on the connector body (not the wires).
- Pull the ignition coils straight up out of the spark plug wells.
- Blow out the spark plug wells with compressed air to remove dust and debris. This keeps dirt from falling into the combustion chamber when you remove the plugs.
- Using the 16 mm spark plug socket with an extension, unscrew the old plugs counterclockwise. Inspect the electrodes and insulator. A normal color is grayish-brown. Black carbon deposits or white deposits point to air-fuel mixture problems.
- Check the gap of the new plugs with a round feeler gauge. It should be 1.0-1.1 mm (check the specification for your particular NGK plug).
- Thread the new plugs in by hand until they stop, to avoid cross-threading.
- Tighten the plugs to 20-25 N·m (15-18 lb-ft). The exact value for the K15B is 23 N·m (17 lb-ft). If you don't have a torque wrench, tighten the plug a quarter turn (90 degrees) after the washer touches the seat.
- Install the ignition coils back into the wells and reconnect the connectors.
- Tighten the four coil bolts to 8-10 N·m (6-7 lb-ft).
- Reconnect the negative battery terminal, start the engine and check that it idles smoothly.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not use spark plugs with a heat range different from the original. This will cause knocking or pre-ignition. Do not drop new plugs onto a hard surface, as the ceramic insulator can develop micro-cracks. If you tighten without a torque wrench, do not overtighten. Stripped threads in the aluminum cylinder head will require a thread repair insert.
