Suzuki Jimny 1.5 K15B (2023): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
Changing the engine oil on the K15B engine is recommended every 10,000-15,000 km or once a year. The procedure is simple and is done from underneath, on a lift or over a pit. You will need 3.4 L (3.6 qt) for the crankcase plus 0.2 L (0.2 qt) for the new filter, so about 3.6 L (3.8 qt) of fresh oil in total.
Part
- 🔩 Suzuki oil filter 16510-73002 or 16510-81420 (aftermarket equivalents: Ryco Z443, Sakura C1218, Mann W 67/2), Suzuki copper drain plug washer 09168-14015, 0W-20 or 5W-30 engine oil (3.6-3.9 L (3.8-4.1 qt))

Step by step
11 steps- Warm the engine up to operating temperature (warm oil drains faster), shut it off, and put the car on a lift or over a pit.
- Remove the skid plate if fitted (usually 4-6 bolts), and place the drain pan under the drain plug.
- Use the 14 mm socket to remove the drain plug from the oil pan, and let the oil drain completely (5-10 minutes).
- Remove the old oil filter with the filter wrench. It is on the front of the engine, on the right side, between the front axle and the suspension link (access is limited, so you will need to maneuver the wrench through the gap by the axle).
- Wipe the mounting surface on the block to remove any remains of the old filter gasket.
- Lubricate the new filter's sealing ring with a thin layer of fresh oil. Screw the filter on by hand until the ring touches, then tighten it another 3/4 turn (14 N·m (10 lb-ft), but it is easier to judge by hand. Do not overtighten).
- Replace the copper washer on the drain plug, then tighten the plug to 35 N·m (26 lb-ft) with a torque wrench.
- Through the oil filler neck (on the left side of the engine near the firewall, unscrew the cap with the dipstick), use the funnel to pour in 3.4 L (3.6 qt) of fresh oil.
- Start the engine and run it for 2-3 minutes (the oil pressure light will go out and the oil will fill the filter), shut it off, and wait 5 minutes.
- Check the level with the dipstick. It should be between the MIN and MAX marks. If needed, top up to the upper mark (you will need another 0.2-0.5 L (0.2-0.5 qt)).
- Inspect the drain plug and filter from underneath for leaks, then reinstall the skid plate.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Always replace the copper drain plug washer, or it may leak. Do not exceed the filter tightening specification (you can damage the threads on the block). Dispose of used oil at a designated collection facility.
