Tesla is winding down the Cybertruck. Elon Musk said so himself on X on 6 November 2026: production at the Texas plant will wind down around the middle of 2027 to make room for the Cybercab robotaxi. The same day Tesla raised the pickup's prices, and the cheapest version can no longer be ordered.
In short
- Cybertruck production at Gigafactory Texas winds down around mid-2027.
- The space goes to increased Cybercab robotaxi production.
- The Dual Motor AWD can no longer be ordered; the Cybertruck now starts at $92,490.
- At the 2019 reveal the promised starting price was $39,900.
What Musk wrote
Elon Musk's post of 6 November 2026, verbatim: "Tesla will be winding down production of the Cybertruck at Gigafactory Texas around the middle of next year to make room for increased Cybercab production".
That is all the post says. Musk gave no final production date and said nothing about existing orders, parts or service for owners.
Prices went up the same day
We checked Tesla's configurator on 6 November 2026:
| Version | US price | Can be ordered |
|---|---|---|
| Dual Motor AWD | $82,490 | no |
| Premium AWD | $92,490 | yes |
| Cyberbeast | $102,490 | yes |
At the end of August 2026 the Premium AWD cost $84,990 and the Cyberbeast $99,990.
How it started
The Cybertruck was unveiled on 21 November 2019 in Los Angeles. On stage, Tesla design chief Franz von Holzhausen threw a metal ball at the "armoured" windows, and both cracked. Five days later Musk posted that there were 250,000 pre-orders. A pre-order needed a $100 deposit, and the deposit could be refunded. The promised starting price was $39,900.
The first customer deliveries came on 30 November 2023. Tesla does not say how many it has sold, because the Cybertruck is reported together with the Model S, Model X and Semi.
What the Cybercab is
A two-seat Tesla robotaxi with no steering wheel or pedals, built at the same Texas plant. Tesla showed the first production unit in February 2026, and full production began in April.
