Exeed TXL (1st generation): Finding the SIM Card in an Aftermarket Alarm GSM Module
The Exeed TXL has no factory alarm with a separate SIM card. The factory telematics (Exeed Connect services) use a built-in module, and the user does not insert a SIM into it. A SIM card is found only in an additional GSM alarm module (installed by the dealer or an installer). Its location is chosen by the installer, so there is no single factory location.
Part
- 🔩 Not required. You need a micro- or nano-SIM (depending on the module) with the PIN code and voicemail prompt disabled. A M2M plan or a regular plan with a minimal monthly fee is best
Step by step
8 steps- Determine what is actually installed in your car. If no alarm was installed, there is no SIM card. The factory online services work through the built-in unit and the app. If an alarm was added later, look for the installation paperwork and for stickers showing the system brand (on the windows, on the key fob, in the app).
- Disconnect power before the inspection. Turn off the vehicle, remove the key, and wait a few minutes. Removing the battery terminal is not required. However, if the unit has to be pulled out, disconnect the negative battery terminal and keep in mind that factory settings (windows, clock) may be reset.
- Inspect the area under the steering column on the left side. The lower panel and the plastic steering column shroud most often hide the main unit. GSM units are usually secured with zip ties to the wiring harness behind the panel, near the fuse box. Look for a small plastic housing with an antenna and a separate harness that differs from the factory harnesses.
- Check the area behind the glove box and the center console. Remove the lower glove box trim and the side console trim with trim removal tools. Installers like to hide the GSM unit and the GPS antenna there.
- Inspect the area behind the instrument panel hood and under the A-pillar trim. The GSM antenna is often stuck under the plastic closer to the windshield, and the unit itself ends up nearby.
- Find the SIM card slot on the unit itself. On GSM module housings, the slot is most often on the side, or under a removable cover on the end. It is often a spring-loaded push-push slot: press the card in slightly and it pops out. Some modules have a tray or a slot under a sticker. Do not pull the card out with force.
- If you cannot find the unit, trace the additional harnesses from the hood sensor and the siren. The siren is usually mounted under the hood, and its wires lead into the cabin to the main unit. This is the most reliable way to find a hidden module.
- When removing or replacing the SIM, keep the module's power disconnected. After installing the card, turn the power on, wait for the network registration indication (LED on the unit), and check the connection with a command from the app or by SMS.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not take apart factory harnesses or pierce wires during your search: the TXL has several control units communicating over digital buses, and careless interference can cause errors and battery drain. Do not disconnect the airbag connectors under the steering column or in the console. If the unit is hidden deep inside or is tied to the immobilizer, contact the alarm installer. The exact location of the module in your car is determined by the installation diagram, which is not documented in open sources for this model.
