Exeed TXL (1st generation): Turning On the Windshield and Mirror Heating

On the Exeed TXL, the electric heating for the windshield and exterior mirrors is switched on with buttons on the climate control panel. They are not available on all trim levels. The exact procedure for this model is not documented in public service materials, so the general principle is given below. Check the button locations against your own vehicle.

Difficulty: Easy Time: 5 minutes Steps: 7 Tools: None needed

Part

  • 🔩 Not required. If the heating does not work, check the fuse and relay for the heating circuit in the fuse box

Step by step

7 steps
  1. Start the engine. Glass and mirror heating draws a lot of current, so with the engine off or at low voltage it may not turn on or may shut off.
  2. On the climate control panel below the multimedia screen, find the buttons with heating icons. The windshield icon is a windshield with wavy arrows. The rear window and mirror icon is a rectangle with wavy arrows. On some trim levels the mirrors turn on together with the rear window using a single button.
  3. Press the button. The indicator in the button will light up. If on your trim level these functions are in the multimedia system's climate screen, open the climate menu on the screen and turn them on there.
  4. Check the result. The mirror elements and the glass should start to warm up within 1-3 minutes. Check the mirrors with your palm. The windshield usually heats up in the wiper rest area and around the edges.
  5. The heating works on a timer and switches off by itself after a few minutes. If needed, turn it on again.
  6. If the indicator is lit but the glass or mirror does not heat up, check the heating fuse in the fuse box. Then check the mirror connector and the contacts of the heating element. For the fuse layout, see the fuse box cover or the fuses section of the owner's manual.
  7. If there is no windshield heating button on the panel, your trim level does not have this function. In that case, set the windshield defrost mode to maximum with the A/C on.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Do not turn on the windshield heating when the glass is soaked with water or covered with a thick layer of ice or snow. First remove the ice with a scraper, taking care not to scratch the glass, and do not use hot water. A sudden temperature change can crack the glass. Do not run the heating for long periods with a weak battery. If a replaced fuse blows again, the wiring needs to be diagnosed. Take the vehicle to a repair shop for this.
