Step by step

11 steps
  1. Open the front passenger door for easier access.
  2. Under the glove box, find the black trim panel held by two yellow plastic clips.
  3. Press the clip tabs on both sides and remove the panel by pulling it down and toward you.
  4. On the left side of the exposed area is a fuse block with two connectors. Disconnect them by releasing the locks and pulling them back (this makes it easier to reach the filter cover).
  5. Find the vertical plastic cover of the filter compartment. Squeeze the two latches on the sides of the cover and pull it first toward the door, then downward.
  6. Remove the old filter with an upward motion from the bottom. Be careful, as there may be debris and leaves inside.
  7. Vacuum the filter housing or wipe it out with a dry cloth.
  8. Insert the new filter with the AIR FLOW arrows pointing toward the cabin (toward the seat). Make sure the filter is fully seated in the slot.
  9. Install the filter cover until the latches click.
  10. Reconnect the fuse block connectors.
  11. Snap the lower panel back onto the clips.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Disconnecting the fuse block connectors may reset radio presets and the adaptive parameters of the control unit (ECU). They will be restored automatically during normal driving. Do not use homemade foam filters, as they do not trap fine dust and pollen.
