Geely Atlas Pro 1.5 Turbo (2022): Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) Fluid Change
On the Atlas Pro with the 1.5 Turbo engine and the dual-clutch automated transmission, the fluid is recommended to be changed about every 60,000 km, and more often under severe use (heavy traffic, taxi service, towing). The key points are an accurate fluid level, which depends on fluid temperature, and fluid of exactly the right specification. A wrong level or fluid type quickly destroys the clutches and the mechatronic unit.
Part
- 🔩 DCT transmission fluid that meets the Geely specification for this transmission (use only fluid approved by the manufacturer for your 7-speed DCT), plus new sealing washers for the drain and fill plugs. If the transmission has a replaceable fluid filter, buy it separately as a "transmission fluid filter." Confirm the exact fill capacity and approval by checking the label on the transmission and the service manual. Do not use fluid meant for a conventional torque-converter automatic
Step by step
11 steps- Warm up the transmission with a short drive of 10-15 km. The fluid should be warm so that it drains well. Shut off the engine and park the car on a level surface or a lift. Apply the parking brake and chock the wheels.
- Remove the engine and transmission skid plate if it covers the transmission. Locate the drain plug and the check (fill) plug on the transmission housing.
- Position the drain container. First loosen the fill plug to make sure it is not seized. If you cannot loosen it, do not remove the drain plug.
- Remove the drain plug and drain the fluid completely. Inspect the magnet on the plug (if it has one). A thin gray film on it is normal. Large metal shavings, metal fragments, or pieces of clutch friction material indicate serious wear, and the transmission needs to be diagnosed.
- If the design includes a replaceable filter or screen, replace or clean it according to the service manual. Removing covers and pans on a DCT is not recommended without experience.
- Install the drain plug with a new sealing washer. The tightening torque depends on the thread size and is listed in the manufacturer's service manual. Do not overtighten, as the housing is aluminum. A typical reference for plugs of this type is 25-40 N·m (18-30 lb-ft), but verify it against the documentation.
- Pour the new fluid in through the fill opening using a syringe or pump. Add roughly the same amount that came out during draining (measured with a graduated container). For a dual-clutch DCT, the exact capacity is specified by the manufacturer.
- Set the level. Start the engine and shift the selector through all positions in turn (P-R-N-D), pausing 3-5 seconds in each so the fluid fills the passages. Then bring the fluid up to the operating temperature specified in the service manual. This is usually 35-50 °C, monitored with a scan tool. With the engine idling and the car level, open the check plug. Excess fluid should come out as a thin stream or drips, and when the flow stops, the level is correct. If no fluid comes out, add more and repeat the check.
- Tighten the check plug with a new washer. Wipe down the transmission and check that there are no leaks. Reinstall the skid plate.
- Take a test drive of 5-10 km, shifting smoothly through all modes. Check for jerking, clutch slip, and warning messages on the instrument cluster. After the drive, inspect the plugs for leaks.
- If the transmission has adaptation values (relearned after a fluid or clutch change), reset them if necessary using a diagnostic scan tool with Geely support. This is not always required, but it is advisable if you notice noticeable jerking after the service.
Common mistakes and warnings
- The exact capacity, approval, and temperature window for checking the level on this transmission are not published as clear-cut values in public service materials. Verify the temperature and torque references given here against the manufacturer's service manual. An incorrect level (either underfilled or overfilled) causes overheating, jerking, and failure of the clutches and mechatronic unit, which is an expensive repair. If you have no experience working on a DCT, no scan tool that monitors fluid temperature, or you are unsure about the procedure, leave the job to a repair shop that regularly changes fluid in dual-clutch transmissions.
