Geely Boyue (Atlas / Coolray class SUV) 1.5 TD (181 hp) (2023): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
The 1.5 TD engine (JLE-3G15TD) requires 0W-20 viscosity oil and an oil change every 7,000-8,500 km depending on the season. The filter is a cartridge type installed from underneath. The refill capacity is about 6 L (6.3 qt), up to the MAX mark on the dipstick.
Part
- 🔩 Geely oil filter 1016056847 (equivalents: Hengst H98W, Mahle OC614, Filtron OP 644/2, Mann W7030). 0W-20 oil, API SP or higher, 6 L (6.3 qt). Drain plug gasket
Step by step
13 steps- Warm the engine up to operating temperature, shut it off, and raise the car on a lift or ramps, or position it over a pit.
- Open the oil filler cap to equalize the pressure.
- Remove the engine undercover (if installed) and place the drain pan under the drain plug.
- Use a 17 mm wrench to remove the drain plug and let the oil drain completely (10-15 minutes).
- Replace the drain plug gasket, thread the plug in by hand until it stops, then tighten it with the wrench another quarter turn (tightening torque 25-35 N·m (18-26 lb-ft)).
- Use the filter wrench to unscrew the oil filter housing from the bottom of the engine and remove the old cartridge.
- Install the new filter element into the housing and replace the rubber O-ring.
- Lubricate the O-ring with clean oil, thread the filter housing on by hand until it makes contact, then tighten it another three-quarters of a turn.
- Pour 5.5 L (5.8 qt) of oil through the filler neck, wait 2-3 minutes, and check the level with the dipstick.
- Top up the oil to a level between the MIN and MAX marks, then close the filler cap.
- Start the engine, let it idle for 1-2 minutes, shut it off, and wait 5 minutes.
- Check the level with the dipstick. It should be between MIN and MAX. Add 100-200 mL (3.4-6.8 fl oz) if necessary.
- Inspect the drain plug and filter for leaks, then reinstall the engine undercover.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not use oil with a viscosity higher than 0W-20. The engine is designed for low-viscosity oils, and deviating from the specification leads to increased wear and higher fuel consumption. Dispose of used oil at a designated collection facility.
