KGM Torres 1.5 T-GDI 163 hp (2024): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Change
For the Torres with the 1.5 turbo gasoline engine, the recommended oil change interval is about 15,000 km or once a year. Under severe driving conditions (heavy traffic, short trips, cold weather), it is better to shorten it to 7,500-10,000 km. Perform the change on a warm engine: the oil drains better and sludge does not settle in the oil pan.
Parts
2- 🔩 5W-30 engine oil meeting KGM specification (check your service booklet for the exact specification and approval), oil filter for the 1.5 turbo gasoline engine, new drain plug washer. Refill capacity with filter is approximately 5-6 L (5.3-6.3 qt)
- 🔩 verify the exact amount against the marks on the dipstick
Step by step
12 steps- Warm up the engine for 5-10 minutes to operating temperature, then shut it off. Park the car on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Raise the car on a lift or drive it over the pit. If an engine skid plate is installed, remove it.
- Place the drain pan under the oil pan and remove the drain plug. The plug and the oil are hot, so be careful.
- Open the oil filler cap under the engine cover (this lets the oil drain faster) and allow it to drain for 10-15 minutes.
- Locate the oil filter and position a pan or rags under it: the remaining oil will run out of the housing. Remove the filter with the filter wrench. If the filter is a cartridge type in a housing, remove the cap and replace the element together with the O-rings.
- Wipe the mounting surface clean. Lubricate the new filter's sealing ring with fresh oil and screw the filter on by hand until the gasket makes contact, then tighten it about 3/4 of a turn more. If the filter has a cap, tighten it with a torque wrench to the manufacturer's specification.
- Clean the drain plug, replace the washer, install the plug and tighten it with a torque wrench. Use the manufacturer's torque specification (the typical range for similar engines is 25-35 N·m (18-26 lb-ft)). Overtightening can strip the threads in the aluminum oil pan.
- If you removed the skid plate, reinstall it and lower the car onto its wheels.
- Pour in about 4.5 L (4.8 qt) of fresh oil through the filler neck, wait 2-3 minutes, and check the level on the dipstick. Top up to the MAX mark; do not overfill.
- Install the filler cap and run the engine for 30-60 seconds. The oil pressure light should go out within 1-2 seconds. Check the filter and drain plug for leaks.
- Shut off the engine, wait 5 minutes, check the dipstick level again, and top up if necessary.
- Reset the service interval indicator through the on-board computer menu (if equipped), and record the date and mileage of the change.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not use oil with the wrong viscosity or without KGM approval: on a direct-injection turbo engine this leads to accelerated turbo wear and the risk of LSPI (low-speed pre-ignition). Do not fill the oil above the MAX mark. Take used oil to a collection point; do not pour it down a drain or onto the ground.
