Geely Atlas 2.0 JLD-4G20 (2019): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Change

Changing the oil and oil filter on a Geely Atlas with the JLD-4G20 2.0 engine is done every 10,000 km or 12 months, whichever comes first. The procedure is standard for gasoline engines: drain the used oil from the oil pan, replace the filter, and add fresh oil. The JLD-4G20 is a naturally aspirated, inline four-cylinder, 16-valve (DOHC) engine developed by Geely in China.

Difficulty: Easy Time: 30-40 minutes Steps: 9 Tools: 17 mm or 19 mm wrench (drain plug), oil filter wrench (if the filter is on tight), funnel, 6 L (6.3 qt) drain pan, shop rags

Part

  • 🔩 Oil filter 1016050404 or 1056006100 (Geely OE). Aftermarket equivalents: Mann W 712/73, Bosch 0 451 103 316. Engine oil 5W-30 or 0W-30, API SL or higher (ACEA A3/B4), capacity 5-5.6 L (5.3-5.9 qt). Drain plug gasket (copper or aluminum) if needed

Step by step

9 steps
  1. Warm the engine up to normal operating temperature (80-90°C), then shut it off. Warm oil drains faster and more completely.
  2. Raise the vehicle on a lift or ramps, or with a jack and jack stands. Remove the lower plastic engine undercover. It is secured by bolts or clips around its perimeter.
  3. Place the drain pan under the oil pan drain plug (at the rear of the oil pan). Using a 17 mm or 19 mm wrench, carefully loosen and remove the drain plug. Unscrew the last few turns by hand so you don't drop it into the used oil.
  4. Let the oil drain completely (10-15 minutes). Inspect the drain plug gasket. If it is badly crushed or damaged, replace it with a new one. Thread the plug in by hand until it seats, then tighten it with the wrench. Tightening torque is 25-35 N·m (18-26 lb-ft). Check the manufacturer's service documentation for the exact value.
  5. The oil filter is located on the lower part of the cylinder block (accessible from below). Unscrew the old filter by hand, counterclockwise. If it is stuck, use a chain-type or cup-type filter wrench. Wipe the mounting surface on the block clean of any remaining oil.
  6. Fill the new filter about halfway with fresh oil and lubricate its rubber gasket with oil. Thread the filter on by hand until the gasket touches the block, then tighten it another three-quarters of a turn. Do not overtighten, or you won't be able to remove it next time.
  7. Reinstall the engine undercover. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Open the oil filler cap on the engine (the cap with the oil can symbol). Pour in 4.5-5 L (4.8-5.3 qt) of oil through a funnel. Close the cap, start the engine, and let it idle for 1-2 minutes. The oil pressure light should go out within 2-5 seconds.
  9. Shut off the engine and wait 3-5 minutes. Check the oil level with the dipstick. The level should be between MIN and MAX, closer to MAX. If needed, add 100-200 ml (3.4-6.8 fl oz). Inspect the oil pan and the filter from below for leaks.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • Do not mix mineral and synthetic oil. If you are switching to a different type or brand, it is advisable to flush the engine with flushing oil. Do not use oil below API SL. It can cause accelerated wear of the variable valve timing (VVT) system. Replace the VVT system filter every 60,000 km according to the manufacturer's schedule.
