Kia Soul 1.6 16V G4FC (2015): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Change
On a Kia Soul with the 1.6 G4FC engine, change the oil every 15,000 km per the manufacturer's schedule, or every 7,000-10,000 km under severe operating conditions (frequent short trips, city traffic, low temperatures). The procedure is simple and needs no special equipment.
Part
- 🔩 Kia oil filter 26300-35503 (equivalents: Mann W 67/1, Mahle OC 384, Bosch 0 451 103 336). Kia drain plug gasket 21513-23001. 5W-20 or 5W-30 synthetic oil, 3.3-3.5 L (3.5-3.7 qt). Oil is commonly sold in 4 L (4.2 qt) jugs

Step by step
15 steps- Warm the engine up to operating temperature (80-90°C), then shut it off and let it sit for 3-5 minutes. Hot oil drains faster and more completely.
- Raise the front of the vehicle on a lift or set it on ramps, and secure it with the parking brake. You can also work over a service pit.
- Remove the engine skid plate (undercover) if fitted (usually 4-6 bolts or clips).
- Place the drain pan under the oil pan drain plug (located at the bottom of the pan, toward the rear wall).
- Loosen the drain plug with a 17 mm wrench, then unscrew it by hand. The oil will come out under pressure, so be careful.
- Wait for the oil to drain completely (5-7 minutes). Inspect the copper gasket on the plug. If it is badly crushed or damaged, replace it with a new one (21513-23001).
- Wipe the plug seat on the oil pan with a rag and install the plug with a new or serviceable gasket. Tightening torque: 25-32 N·m (18-24 lb-ft). Do not overtighten, as you can strip the threads in the aluminum oil pan.
- Locate the oil filter (on the front right of the engine block, accessible from above through the engine bay or from below).
- Unscrew the old filter counterclockwise with an oil filter wrench or by hand (if space allows). Wipe the mounting surface on the engine block.
- Lubricate the rubber sealing ring of the new filter with clean engine oil. Thread the filter onto the stud by hand until the ring touches the block, then tighten it another three quarters of a turn (270 degrees). Filter tightening torque: 12-16 N·m (9-12 lb-ft). Do not use a filter wrench to tighten it; use only your hands or a torque wrench.
- Open the hood and remove the oil filler cap (the cap with the oil can symbol on the valve cover).
- Using a funnel, pour in 3.0 L (3.2 qt) of 5W-20 or 5W-30 oil (5W-30 is acceptable for temperate climates; 5W-20 is preferable in hot regions).
- Install the oil filler cap, start the engine, and let it idle for 1-2 minutes. The oil pressure warning light should go out within 2-3 seconds.
- Shut off the engine, wait 5 minutes, and check the oil level with the dipstick. The level should be between MIN and MAX. If necessary, add 0.3-0.5 L (0.3-0.5 qt) to reach the upper mark.
- Inspect the oil pan and the filter from below for leaks. If everything is dry, reinstall the engine skid plate.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Always replace the drain plug gasket at every oil change, as reusing it can lead to leaks. Dispose of used oil at a designated collection point. Never pour it down a drain or onto the ground. Do not mix oils of different brands or viscosities unless necessary. With high-quality synthetic oil, you can extend the change interval to 10,000 km under normal operating conditions.
