Toyota Ipsum (ACM20, 2nd generation): License Plate Light Bulb Replacement
The license plate light on the Toyota Ipsum ACM20 uses a T10 bulb (also designated W5W or 194) with a wedge base. Replacement is done from the trunk side without removing the bumper. The lamp housing is held by clips and a twist-lock retainer.
Part
- 🔩 T10 incandescent bulb (W5W, 5 W, 12 V) or LED T10 equivalent
Step by step
7 steps- Open the tailgate and find the license plate lamp housing on the inside of the tailgate or on the lower part of the rear bumper.
- Insert a plastic trim tool or a flat screwdriver (wrapped in a rag) into the slot along the edge of the housing and pry gently, working left or right. The housing comes off on clips. On some vehicles, the housing must be turned counterclockwise before it can be removed.
- Remove the bulb socket from the housing. It may pull straight out or require a quarter turn counterclockwise.
- Pull the old T10 bulb out of the socket. It is held only by the friction of the base contacts, so pull it straight out.
- Push the new T10 bulb into the socket until it stops. If you are installing an LED bulb, check the polarity: if it does not light, rotate the bulb 180 degrees.
- Insert the socket back into the housing (straight in, or with a clockwise turn until it clicks).
- Turn on the parking lights and make sure the bulb lights up. If everything works, snap the housing back into place or turn it clockwise until it locks.
Common mistakes and warnings
- When installing LED bulbs, make sure they meet your local license plate illumination requirements for vehicle inspection. Bulbs that are too dim or too bright may fail the inspection.
