Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (Montero Sport) 2.4 DI-D (2018): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Change
The 4N15 engine holds 8.4 L (8.9 qt) of oil including the filter and cooler, and in practice takes about 8 L (8.5 qt) on refill. The scheduled maintenance interval is 15,000 km. Under severe conditions, shorten it to 7,500 km. Use DL-1 oil in 5W-30 or 0W-30 viscosity.
Part
- 🔩 oil filter 1230A182 (equivalents MANN W 8017, Ryco Z456), drain plug gasket MF660035 or MD050317 (14 mm diameter), DL-1 5W-30 oil, 8 L (8.5 qt) (genuine Mitsubishi MZ320760 or equivalent)

Step by step
11 steps- Warm up the engine to operating temperature (80-90°C) and park the vehicle on a level surface over a pit or on a lift.
- Remove the oil filler cap to equalize pressure.
- Place the drain pan under the oil pan and remove the drain plug with a 17 mm wrench (be careful, the oil is hot).
- Wait for the oil to drain completely (5-7 minutes).
- Replace the copper drain plug gasket with a new one and tighten the plug to 39 ± 5 N·m (29 ± 4 lb-ft).
- Unscrew the old oil filter (located on the bottom, near the crankshaft pulley). Use an oil filter wrench if necessary.
- Wipe the filter mounting surface and lubricate the rubber gasket of the new filter with fresh oil.
- Install the new filter by hand until the gasket makes contact, then tighten it another 3/4 turn (do not use a tool to tighten).
- Pour in 8 L (8.5 qt) of fresh oil through a funnel.
- Start the engine and let it run for 1-2 minutes, then shut it off. After 3-5 minutes, check the level with the dipstick (it should be between MIN and MAX) and top off if necessary.
- Inspect the drain plug and the filter for leaks.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not overtighten the oil filter with a tool. 3/4 of a turn by hand after contact is enough. Overtightening will damage the rubber gasket and cause a leak. Use DL-1 oil. Standard diesel oils meeting API CJ-4 or ACEA E9 are also suitable, but exact DL-1 compliance ensures optimal protection for the diesel particulate filter and the exhaust aftertreatment system.
