Mitsubishi Pajero Sport (2nd generation): Rear Wiper Motor Replacement
A typical cause of rear wiper failure on the Pajero Sport II is a seized motor shaft due to corrosion. Moisture and road salt get in through a worn seal and bind the shaft. Replacing the motor does not require any special skills. The whole removal and installation takes about an hour, plus 20-30 minutes to prepare the new motor.

Step by step
12 steps- Open the tailgate and remove the protective decorative cap at the base of the wiper arm (pry it off with a thin screwdriver).
- Remove the wiper arm retaining nut (10 mm socket) and take off the washer.
- Pull the wiper arm off the shaft splines. Use a puller, or carefully pry with two flat-blade screwdrivers from both sides while rocking the arm upward. Do not pull on the blade. Pull only on the metal base of the arm.
- Remove the plastic inner trim panel from the tailgate. The clips around the perimeter (6-8 of them) can be pried loose with a trim removal tool. Disconnect the wires for the glass release button, if equipped.
- Remove the three motor mounting bolts (10 mm socket) and disconnect the electrical connector.
- Take the motor out of the tailgate together with its bracket through the access opening.
- Before installing, disassemble the new motor (remove the 3-4 housing screws). Pack the internal gearbox and shaft generously with Castrol LMX grease or Litol-24 lithium grease. Replace the shaft seal (8253A020) with a new one.
- Install the motor in its original position, tighten the three mounting bolts, and plug in the connector.
- Turn the ignition on and briefly run the rear wiper. The shaft will move to its home (park) position.
- Fit the wiper arm onto the shaft splines. Align it so that the blade at rest sits at the bottom of the glass on the left (or on the right, depending on the design). If the motor is from an Outlander, the shaft position may be off by 180 degrees. Simply rotate the arm accordingly.
- Tighten the arm retaining nut (torque 8-12 N·m (6-9 lb-ft); by hand, snug, without excessive force) and install the decorative cap.
- Install the trim panel onto its clips and reconnect the glass release button wires.
Common mistakes and warnings
- The motor from the Mitsubishi Outlander (8253A011) is fully compatible with the Pajero Sport II. The only difference is the direction of the output stub on the housing, which does not affect operation. Be sure to replace the shaft seal with a new one and coat the outside of the shaft with a thin layer of grease or silicone lubricant to prevent the shaft from seizing again from corrosion. If the original nut is rusted, use a stainless steel nut with a nylon locking insert to secure the wiper arm.
