Renault Logan (1st generation) 1.6 16V K4M (2011): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Change
On the K4M 1.6 16V, change the oil together with the filter every 10,000-15,000 km, and more often under severe operating conditions. Do the work on a warm engine. The refill capacity is about 4.8 L (5.1 qt) with the filter, and the final level is checked on the dipstick.

Step by step
13 steps- Warm up the engine for 5-10 minutes so the oil becomes thin. Do not let it overheat, or you will burn yourself.
- Park the car on level ground, over a pit, or on jack stands. Apply the parking brake. If the car has an engine undercover (skid plate), remove it.
- Open the oil filler cap on the valve cover so the oil drains better. Place the drain pan under the oil pan.
- Unscrew the oil pan drain plug and let the oil drain for 10-15 minutes. Be careful: the oil is hot.
- Inspect the plug and its threads. Replace the sealing washer. Wipe the seating surface and tighten the plug to about 25 N·m (18 lb-ft). Do not overtighten: the oil pan is thin and its threads strip easily.
- Place the drain pan under the oil filter. Unscrew it counterclockwise with the filter wrench. Oil remains in and around the filter, so keep it upright.
- Wipe the mounting surface on the engine block. Make sure the old sealing ring has not stayed behind on the block.
- Lubricate the rubber ring of the new filter with fresh oil. If possible, pour a little oil into the filter to reduce oil starvation at startup.
- Screw the filter on by hand until the ring touches the mounting surface, then tighten it about another 3/4 turn. Do not tighten with the wrench: hand force is enough unless the filter specifies otherwise.
- Pour in about 4 L (4.2 qt) of oil through the funnel, wait a couple of minutes, and check the level on the dipstick. Add oil in small amounts up to the MAX mark, approximately 4.5-4.8 L (4.8-5.1 qt).
- Close the filler cap. Start the engine and run it for 30-60 seconds. The oil pressure light should go out 1-2 seconds after startup.
- Inspect the plug and filter: there should be no leaks. Shut off the engine, wait 5 minutes, and check the dipstick level again, topping up if necessary.
- Install the engine undercover. Reset the service interval indicator if the instrument cluster has a reminder. Take the old oil to a recycling point.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not fill above the MAX mark: excess oil goes into the crankcase ventilation system, increases oil consumption, and can lead to seal leaks
- Do not use mineral oil or oils without Renault approval
- Do not tip the filter upside down when removing it, so you do not spill oil on the exhaust manifold
