Toyota Land Cruiser Prado (J150): Fog Light Bulb Replacement
The fog lights on the J150 sit in the lower part of the front bumper. The bulb comes out from the back of the fog light unit, and access is usually through the wheel well (by folding back the front fender liner) or from underneath through the skid plate. The exact procedure for this model is not documented in publicly available service materials, so below is the general principle that fits this layout.
Part
- 🔩 Halogen fog light bulb (H11 or H16 depending on trim level and facelift; check the marking on the base of the removed bulb)
Step by step
10 steps- Shut off the engine, turn off all lights and other electrical loads, and wait 10-15 minutes for the bulb to cool.
- Turn the steering wheel all the way toward the side opposite the one you are working on to open up access to the front of the wheel well.
- Press out or partially unscrew the clips and screws along the front edge of the plastic fender liner and fold it down. If the lower plastic bumper shield is in the way, remove it.
- Locate the back of the fog light unit. The bulb socket with the electrical connector is mounted there.
- Disconnect the wiring connector: press the locking tab and pull the connector straight back. Do not pull on the wires.
- Remove the bulb together with its socket. As a rule, turn it counterclockwise about a quarter turn and pull it toward you. If the bulb is held by a spring clip, press the clip to release it.
- Take the bulb out of the reflector or socket. Handle the new bulb only by its base and do not touch the glass with your fingers. If you do touch it, wipe the glass with rubbing alcohol.
- Install the new bulb, secure the socket, and connect the connector until it clicks.
- Turn on the low beams, then the fog lights, and check that they work. Make sure there is no condensation and that the bulb sits straight.
- Put the fender liner and skid plate back in place and secure the clips and screws. Make sure no plastic is hanging loose anywhere.
Common mistakes and warnings
- If the new bulb does not light, check the fog light fuse in the fuse box and the connector for corrosion before replacing the whole headlight assembly. Replace bulbs in pairs so the light output matches. Do not turn on a bulb outside the housing: it gets very hot and can burn out. Do not install bulbs with a higher wattage than the factory ones, as this can melt the reflector plastic and the connector.
