Dongfeng AX7 2.0 SFG20 (2018): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
The oil and filter on this engine are changed together, usually every 10,000 km or once a year. Under severe use (city driving, heavy traffic, short trips), it is better to change them every 7,000-8,000 km. The exact procedure for this model is not documented in publicly available service materials, so below is the general principle for an inline gasoline engine. Check the exact fill capacity against the MAX mark on the dipstick.
Parts
3| № | Part | Alternatives |
|---|---|---|
| 01 | Synthetic engine oil, API SN, ACEA A3/B4about 4-5 L (4.2-5.3 qt) | |

Tools
9- Wrench or socket for the oil pan drain plug
- oil filter wrench (strap or cup type)
- funnel
- drain pan of 6-7 L (6.3-7.4 qt)
- torque wrench
- shop rags
- gloves
- lift
- pit or secure jack stands
Step by step
11 steps- Warm up the engine for 3-5 minutes until it is warm, so the oil thins out and drains better. Do not let it get hot, to avoid burns.
- Park the car on level ground, set the parking brake, and raise it on a lift or position it over a pit. If the car has an engine skid plate, remove it.
- Open the oil filler cap on the valve cover. This speeds up draining.
- Place the drain pan under the oil pan drain plug. Unscrew the plug and drain all the oil, which takes 10-15 minutes.
- Clean the plug and its seat. Replace the sealing washer. Install the plug and tighten it with a torque wrench to approximately 30-40 N·m (22-30 lb-ft); for the exact value, follow the manufacturer's specification. Do not overtighten, as the oil pan may be aluminum.
- Position the drain pan under the oil filter so oil does not run onto the skid plate and exhaust system. Remove the filter with the filter wrench. Make sure the old gasket has not stayed behind on the engine's mounting surface.
- Lubricate the rubber gasket of the new filter with fresh oil. If the filter sits upright, pour in a little oil. Spin the filter on by hand until the gasket touches, then tighten about 3/4 of a turn more. Do not tighten it with a wrench.
- Pour in about 4 L (4.2 qt) of oil, wait a couple of minutes, and check the level with the dipstick. Top up in small amounts to the MAX mark. Do not overfill.
- Close the filler cap. Start the engine and let it run for 1-2 minutes. The oil pressure light should go out within 1-3 seconds after startup.
- Inspect the filter and drain plug for leaks. Shut off the engine, wait 5 minutes, and check the level on the dipstick again, topping up if necessary.
- Reinstall the engine skid plate if you removed it. Dispose of the used oil and filter at a recycling collection point.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Do not mix oils of different grades, and do not use oil below API SN
- Do not overtighten the drain plug or the filter: you can strip the oil pan threads or crush the seal
- Work on a cool or only slightly warm engine
- Hot oil and the exhaust manifold cause burns
