Renault Duster 2.0 F4R 143 hp (2015): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement
On the F4R, change the oil every 15,000 km or once a year. Warm the engine up to operating temperature so the old oil drains completely. The filter is located in the engine bay on the right side of the cylinder block. After the facelift, access is difficult, so it is easier to change it from underneath.
Parts
2- 🔩 oil filter 8200768913 (equivalents: Mann W 8017, Bosch 0 451 103 336)
- 🔩 engine oil 5W-30 or 5W-40 meeting Renault RN0710 (for example, Elf Evolution 900 SXR), 5.4 L (5.7 qt)
Step by step
10 steps- Warm the engine up to operating temperature, shut it off, and wait 5 minutes for the oil to drain into the oil pan.
- Remove the engine skid plate (undercover). Remove the two 13 mm nuts on the rail mounting studs, reaching them through the service openings in the skid plate.
- Place the drain pan under the drain plug in the oil pan. Remove the plug with the 8 mm square drive and let the oil drain for 10-15 minutes.
- Check the condition of the copper or steel sealing washer under the plug and replace it with a new one if it is worn. Tighten the plug to 20-25 N·m (15-18 lb-ft).
- From underneath, use the filter wrench to unscrew the oil filter counterclockwise (be careful: it sits close to the heat exchanger, so do not damage the cooling system hoses). Place a cut-off cup or funnel under the filter to catch the remaining oil.
- Lubricate the new filter's sealing ring with clean engine oil. Screw the filter on by hand until the ring touches the mounting surface, then tighten it a further 2/3 turn.
- Reinstall the engine skid plate.
- Pour 5.2 L (5.5 qt) of oil through the oil filler neck, wait 2-3 minutes, and check the level with the dipstick. It should be between the MIN and MAX marks, closer to MAX.
- Start the engine and let it idle for 1-2 minutes. Shut it off, wait 5 minutes, then check the level again and top up to the upper mark if needed.
- Check for leaks around the drain plug and the filter.
Common mistakes and warnings
- Work carefully: the oil is hot and can cause burns. Do not use an oil filter with a 2.0 bar pressure valve (for diesels). The F4R requires a filter with a 1.3 bar valve. After the facelift, access to the filter from above is difficult because of the changed intake layout, so it is easier to do the job from a pit or on a lift.
