Haval F7 2.0 Turbo GW4C20B (2025): Engine Oil and Oil Filter Change

The maintenance schedule calls for an oil and filter change every 10,000 km or once a year, whichever comes first. Replace the drain plug gasket at every oil change. Drain the oil with the engine warm, and check the level on the dipstick after a short test run of the engine.

  • Lift or inspection pit
  • drain plug wrench (socket or hex key matching the plug size)
  • oil filter wrench (cup-type or strap-type)
  • torque wrench
  • drain pan of 6 L (6.3 qt) or larger
  • funnel
  • gloves
  • rags
  • wrench or bit for the skid plate fasteners

Step by step

12 steps
  1. Warm up the engine for 5-10 minutes to normal operating temperature. Hot oil flows better and carries away more suspended contaminants. Park the car on a level surface, shut off the engine, and wait 3-5 minutes.
  2. Raise the car on a lift or drive it over an inspection pit. Remove the skid plate if one is installed. To do this, undo the fasteners and support the plate so it does not fall.
  3. Open the oil filler cap. This lets air into the oil pan so the oil drains faster.
  4. Place the drain pan under the drain plug. Remove the plug and let the oil drain for at least 10-15 minutes. The oil is hot, so be careful.
  5. While the oil drains, place a pan or rags under the oil filter. Unscrew the filter with the filter wrench. Make sure the old filter's sealing ring has not stayed behind on the mounting surface of the housing.
  6. Wipe the filter mounting surface clean. Lubricate the sealing ring of the new filter with clean engine oil. Screw the filter on by hand until the ring touches, then tighten it about 3/4 of a turn more. Do not use a wrench with heavy force unless the filter body specifies a different tightening method.
  7. Wipe the drain plug and the oil pan threads clean. Fit a new gasket and tighten the plug with a torque wrench. The tightening torque is about 30-45 N·m (22-33 lb-ft); confirm the exact value in the manufacturer's service manual. Do not overtighten the plug: threads in an aluminum oil pan strip easily.
  8. Pour in fresh oil through the funnel. Start with about 4 L (4.2 qt), wait a minute, and check the level on the dipstick. The total capacity with the filter is roughly 4.5-5 L (4.8-5.3 qt), but go by the dipstick level, not by the number.
  9. Close the filler cap. Run the engine for 1-2 minutes. The oil pressure warning light should go out 1-2 seconds after startup. Inspect the filter and drain plug for leaks.
  10. Shut off the engine, wait 5 minutes, and check the oil level on the dipstick. The level should be between the MIN and MAX marks, closer to the upper one. If needed, top off in small amounts.
  11. Install the skid plate. Tighten its fasteners with moderate force. Lower the car.
  12. Reset the service interval counter through the on-board computer menu, if this function is available. Take the used oil and filter to a recycling collection point.

Common mistakes and warnings

  • The engine is turbocharged and has direct injection
  • Do not use oil with a viscosity or specification not recommended for this engine: it speeds up wear of the turbocharger and the timing chain drive
  • Do not fill above the MAX mark: excess oil causes foaming and oil getting into the intake
  • If you have no experience working under a car, have a shop do the job
  • Lift the car only with a lift or on solid stands, never on a jack alone
